Fork socks

What you guys views in forks socks or experience if any?

 

Anything negative besides how it doesnt look too sexy on the bike?

 

Seems like idea behind it makes sense to protect it from mud gravel n stones

A great way to trap dirt and grime between your "socks" and stanchion and then to wear away at the metal in time...........

Yup. What Hairy said. Great way to grind away your stanchions and also affect the workings of the work to a certain extent.

 

Suspension manufacturers spent tons on developing the seals etc.

They certainly have there place, but not on a bicycle.

 

Have used them on my dual sport motorbike and there they work well. There you talking hard chroming and a lot more weight and inertia. I would expect that to start with, they would have some effect on small bump compliance on your bike, then the wear and tear on your stanchions, especially aluminium.

Seems like good protection while transporting the bike but as others have said, not ideal due to dust getting trapped inside. This was tried in the 90s.

Yeah i figured it could affect the stanchions or operation of the shocks.
