Suspected fracture for Soler

Last year's king of the mountains, Juan Mauricio Soler of Barloworld, might not get the chance to repeat that performance after he crashed near the end of stage one of the Tour de France. The Colombian fell with nine kilometres to go on the same wrist that he fractured in the Giro d'Italia, and suffered a suspected broken scaphoid. He also sprained his right wrist, which he injured in last year's Coppa Agostoni.

"The scaphoid is a small round bone in the wrist and you can't always see if it's fractured or not after a wrist injury," Tour medical officer Gerard Porte told AFP. The bone sits at the base of the thumb, and because it has limited blood circulation to it, the scaphoid can be slow to heal.

Soler expects to make a decision whether or not to continue before the start of the second stage on Sunday. Soler suffered through his wrist fracture in the Giro d'Italia for nine stages before finally abandoning on stage 11.

Eish this is bad news for Barlows smiley6.gif Soler really made last year's tour; it'll be horrible if he can't perform or pulls out this year.

That he should have been at the front is easier said than done. If everyone rode near the front of the peloton, there would be no back.

Why does the team always sit near the back?

JL came 72nd and RH like 80 something... Surely Corti should be telling his boys to go further forward.

Just my thoughts on the subject

Of course Corti tells them to stay in the front, they know that but easier said than done. Looks easy enough from your sofa! Did you even watch the finish up a 1. something climb. Not really a finish for Rob....

Soler doesn't have biking skills.

?

Here we go again... such a deep revelation...Dead?

It is funny how often he is involved in crashes...

Yes, he can climb but does he get nervous with all the riders around him?

I wish him a speedy recovery

Did Soler staConfusedrt today????

01:22 PM: Mauricio Soler
You'll

notice that we had 179 starters today. Mauricio Soler (Barloworld) did

start today, despite the fact that doctors suspect that he might have broken a bone in his wrist. They couldn't reach a definitive diagnosis because of swelling.

Soler suffered a suspected fractured scaphoid in his left wrist and a

sprained right wrist in a crash on the chaotic 197.5km first stage.

'He's going to give it a go,' said Barloworld team manager Claudio Corti. 'He'll see how he feels during the race.'
