And here I was about to say I owned the Trek then the Spark .... avoid the Trek ... sure I had the Friday dud model, worst of all the bikes I ever owned.

Life moves on.  TITAN now offers much better bang for the buck.

What happened with your Trek and which model did you have?

Trek EX5

Think it was a 2016/17 model.

FIRST ride it started creaking .... took it back, and got it sorted for a while.

Rear wheel bearing disintegrated, outer race stuck in the hub.  Trek wanted to sell a new hub, and had stock as this happens regularly ....  This at a bout 1 500km.  NO muddy rides.

Knipe_Racing made a puller to get the outer race out.

As I said, probably a Friday dud model ....  there certainly are many Trek bikes out there with happy riders.

Thanks for your input, that's completely understandable.

Fingers crossed which everyone one I go for doesn't have this issue. 😅

Go for the bike where you will get the best after sales back up, so Trek

Hi, could you please elaborate on this?

Thanks!

Think you meant TITAN, GIANT or SCOTT ... :P

Jokes aside ... the "brand" is only as good as the SHOPS in your area.  The best brands can get tarnished by bad shops ....

Hi, I am in the market for a new bike.

Have my eye on the trek top fuel 5 and the scott spark 970.

Both are on the sale for the same price.

I am leaning towards the Scott cause of the twin lock system however you do need to replace the tyre's to go tubeless which is a bummer (trek takes this W).

Interested to hear what you guys have to say.

Also if there are any other recommendations let me know.

TREK for my vote - Lifetime warranty on the frame alone is a no brainer

Between the Trek 5 and the Spark ton I would go with the Titan Cypher 😂

Coming from you  .... how many Scotts have you owned by now?

Ek het telling verloor 😂 bottomline that Trek and Scott has entry level suspension and weight about the same as an Ebike, both of these things take all the fun away. I would in all honesty if I had to buy a new dual now just have to decide which Cypher to get.

you can pick up a much better spec’d Titan Cypher for the same price as these options. It’s a no brainer if you are on a budget - the value for money on the Titans is very impressive.

I can assure anyone reading this thread that the Top Fuel and Spark are fun bikes, regardless of weight. I'm sure the Titan is fun as well, but I feel the geometry of the Cyphers is a generation behind the Spark and the Top Fuel.

Thanks!

My recent experience dealing with Trek head office has been really good. They have a no nonsense approach to warrantees and they get the importance of customer satisfaction. The retail stores play a key role, but also having a principal/brand owner who gets customer service - that does it for me.
