HowardSteele Posted March 4, 2022 Posted March 4, 2022 Hi All , I've searched the sections but failed to hit on the subject of MTbike to e-bike conversion . If it has please post a redirect Link. So I 'have a Genius 2020 aluminium frame ...due to conflicting health issues it's getting difficult to get out on my regular Tokai Trails, up jeep track down singles. I see across the pond the guys are doing pretty decent conversions. Has anybody In SA "better still the Cape" sourced the conversion kit or necessary parts to do the conversion. I have seen locally we have Chilled Squirrel doing in house conversions. thanks Howard.
Kavandje Posted March 4, 2022 Posted March 4, 2022 If you can wait a little while. Probably the simplest conversion that I have come across. Bimotal is about as low key as it gets. HowardSteele 1
Kavandje Posted March 4, 2022 Posted March 4, 2022 Alternatively a conversion that is highly rated is sold by CYC. In both cases installation is not massively difficult. CYC Motor HowardSteele 1

Zebra Posted March 4, 2022 Posted March 4, 2022 (edited) I used Chilled Squirell 5 or 6 years back, with excellent results. I converted a Specialized S-Works 26”er that I had done a couple of Cape Epics on, so was quite fond of the bike, and even with a full Ultegra group set on, and some other farkles, it would have not sold for much, so decided to convert it! bought the strongest kit available at the time, and boy, does it move the body/mind and soul! unrestricted motor, basically gave new life to an old (but good) bike, did not harm that I was recovering from surgery (MVA) at the time. would use them again, they were very good/professional. cheers, Chris Edited March 4, 2022 by Zebra Spelling HowardSteele and Dicky DQ 1 1

I have a figure of about R20 to 25k in my mind. But this was for a larger motor and oversize battery. They had cheaper options as well .... Then got a demo model from Darrvin for a very good price ...... They dont do conversions though. PS - Mark has been my LBS for decades, but he only started doing ebike conversions this year. They tried out various options last year. We were speaking about it end of last year, but his container only arrived recently. HowardSteele 1

I THINK price has remained similar, but technology has leaped ahead. never - ever - ran out of battery, but I rode on lower settings, often. …felt like Big Mig going up S’Bossie, pedalling hard, on settin 9! cheers Chris HowardSteele and ChrisF 2
