just wearing leg warmers is not cutting it with this cold weather.

1. Who makes a good winter pant? (not jean pant)

2. who has stock (JHB)?

Vermarc. If it's good enough for Belgian winter weather, then you know it's good enough for our mild SA winters... I have the long-bib and the knicker-bib, both of which are very comfy. vermarc.co.za, click on 'Contact'.

This bib tight combines full Windstopper on the front with Thermolite fleece all around. These tights are ideal for keeping you warm and dry in extreme conditions

If you want to stay warm look for a make that contains either Windstopper or Goretex you will not go wrong

Apparently it will be -1C tomorrow........Nortcliff here we come

I must say I am more worried bout my upper body being cold. I ride with leg warmers and ordinary shorts and toe caps. The upper body however.....undershirt, woolen vest, thermal arm warmers and then my Standard bank winter top. However I don't think that is enough and am going to start piling on stuff without caring how it looks in the "style" icons on the road.....

I have two pairs of Assos longs and they are the bee knees.

As Mux said, you can't go wrong with Winstopper or Goretex.

BG, you have to cover your knees atleast. When the cold gets to your knees you can get hurt pretty bad.

I got me the Giordana long bibs. It's the one without the padding. Payed just onder R700 @ Westdene.

I would love to see a person going for a 3 hour training ride with gore tex pants. it'd make you transpire unknown quantities because the membran is not breathable enough.

gore tex and windstopper are both registered trademarks of the company gore. windstopper is an awesome membrane, but not waterproof. "water resistant", but not waterproof (there are products available to increase the water resistancy of the membrane). sweetly breathable but very windproof. I'm lvoing it!

gore tex is a waterproof and less breathable membrane. In my knowledge there are no bibs available with gore tex, which, besides the lower breathability, but also the stiffness and it's proness to brake when folded/rubbed constantly, make it unsuitable for long excercises. there are gore tex rainpants, which do a great job keeping the rain outside but because of the low breathability make you sit in you own sweat and then the pant is reduced to perform a widnstopper duty which the more breathable windstopper membrane can also do but without letting you sweat so much. rain pants are there to pull them over your actual pants, bibs, to stay dry for cruising around or the one or other shorter trainingrides, in particular in cold and nasty winters as you get thme in europe.  but, they aren't too comfortable. so if you are a man, go and use windstopper bib! oh, I presume if you are a real man you wear shorts, no matter what the temperature is. Smile

Price for these ?

Can't remeber what I paid but I think around the 1K mark.

Yes Windstopper is a bye product of Goretex and is only "water resistant" but I am not sure how that is relevent as we don't have rain here in winter. The main thing is to keep warm and anything with Windstopper in it is guaranteed to do exactly that.

Bored girl as for riding around in your eskimo suit go out spend some money on a windstopper jacket from Etxeondo. You will pay about R1500 but the jacket will last you forever. They are very thin just slightly thicker than your normal cycling shirt but all you need is the jacket and undershirt as weird as what it sounds and you will be warm enough....I think the jacket is guaranteed to up to minus 16 degrees.

Also Etexondo stuff just looks fantastic...checkout the website at http://www.etxeondo.com and go through their catalog. Mike at BH Bikes can help you should you wish to order.

And unlike Pocketbikes I only put my kahoonas on the line when I am absolutly sure that a product is worth every sent you pay for it. With this stuff I am absolutly sure!!
