PeterM Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Just read a discussion that cycling is becoming and replacing the game of golf. Both are expensive, outdoors, have elite branding, strong social component, business is discussed and done during the sport, strong clubs, etc. I don't like golf and love cycling, so i am biased. But want to know what you think? Thanks,
javadude Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Hopefully someone gets a brainwave and introduces cycling estates instead of golf estates in future. Imagine having your house in a secure estate with 100 km's of car free lanes and a fair amount of single track.
NotSoBigBen Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Now if only I could get away with saying I'm out every Wednesday from 11am to go network on the MTB like some of my colleagues say when they are playing golf without taking leave ......
PeterM Posted July 9, 2008 Author Posted July 9, 2008 .... or cycling roads with small car-lanes on the side...
porky Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Hmm, I play golf and love it, I also cycle and run. I have concluded a few deals on the golf course, I have concluded a few more at the pub afterwards and I have concluded even more by just been out on the course and chatting to folk. I have never even spoken to anyone who discussed business on a bike (or running actually) - there is no pub after the ride, and road cyclists in general dont talk on their rides, and most of the slightly podgy executives I know wont be riding with them anyway. .........so NO I dont think golf is going to be threatened in that area.!
Veloce Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 You don't need "ballsense" to ride a bike. Hmmmm, should I say it????
slowpoke Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 veloce - no need, i think we're all thinking it!
Veloce Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 veloce - no need' date=' i think we're all thinking it![/quote']
Canaris Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 veloce - no need' date=' i think we're all thinking it![/quote'] SP do you think of anything else?
dirtrider Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Porky you must be cycling with the wrong (or not) crowd ! I received new rules from the handbrake last week regarding my cycling habits and rule number one states that I will not stop at the pub on the way home !!!
Delgado Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 If anything some of the "make you better" gizmos in cycling are akin to golf !! Big time!!!

I am just waiting for the day my wife says "Hey, I know how important your handicap is to you, I make enough money for the both of us, why dont you just stay at home and work on it." - think its gonna happen???
Red Zone Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 I know lots of corporate guys are taking to the bike, normally a Cervelo, with Barloworld kit
Flea Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Both Sports make you dress in clothing that you would not normally be seen in....
