Been reading some of the comments about the Ad in the Mail & Guardian. It is a bit of a hot pot bringing up some really contentious issues as to why exactly people found it to be offensive. There are some very valid points.

I totally disagree with you on the ?we?ve been having it? advertisement. It is grossly inaccurate and creates a somber atmosphere about black African leaders.

This advert propagates stereotypical generalizations of African leaders. In short that African leaders are:

? Dictators
? Have struggle credentials hence the military uniform
? Are simple bound
? Do not have access to world class technology such as e-mails etcetera

This advert should in-fact be banned as the kind of scenery that it comprises of promotes the hypothetical idea that Africans are simple tribesman.

This advert is grossly misplaced in this South African society that is trying to adjust to a democratic dispensation.

This advert is simply making fools of Africans. Creating a laughing stock and a mockery out of the good of Africans. It is highly unacceptable and should be discontinued in the most immediate action

 

Seems like someone that can still plame apartheid for everything as well
