Take your passport ;)

What are you doing it on?

Gravel bike. Looking at 38mm tyres. Panaracers possibly. Lots of spares to go onboard, 50 to 60km per day over 10 or so days.

Don't ride on the N4 from Hectorspruit to the Border. Its way to Dangerous with all the chrome trucks. Rather take the Ngwenya Lodge/Marloth Park turn off just past Hectorpruit and ride through Komatipoort to the Border. Much safer.

Consider riding through Swaziland with this opening other, potentially safer (if that's even possible) options.

Yes, Swaziland would be a better option, Nerston or Oshoek. Then use Goba Border Post to enter Mozambique.

Your Best Option would be to ride to Ermelo - Oshoek, Swaziland - Goba Border then onto Maputo, Our recent ride was via Oshoek Swazi Border, Beautiful roads till 30 km past goba border.

Enjoy

I have a feeling there is a tour group this year with the Luso bunch. I'll find some details and relay here.

You are right. Every year there's a bunch of cyclists with back-up cars coming through Lebombo Border to Mozambique. The one guy told me it's type of fun-ride tour type of thing. They do post it on fb, but for the life of me, I can't remember the name.
