Garmin Varia UT800 Light

Looking at buying one of these due to the mounting system being so much neater than others. Is it worth the R3000 purchase price?

Mounting system is good yes.

Highest level lasts around 2 hours.

Works as advertised.

Depends...as a stand-alone, its a great light with fair spread and lumens, there are brighter ones on the market but this one comes into it's own if you have a Garmin bike computer where the light can be controlled from the head unit and mounts neatly under the unit...

Yeah, it’s useful to buy an extra 1-2 hours in the morning and evenings. But as above it really comes into its own working in conjunction with a garmin head unit to auto adjust to the different modes, auto adjust brightness, day flash, etc. I have both the varia rear light and front, works super well in all the modes to see and probably more important, be seen. Swapping between bikes is super quick with the double sided out front mount.

The lights front and a rear with the modes and side visibility work really well at pulling motorists brains out of their thoughts to see you on the side of the road.

I went with the Bontrager Ion Pro RT light as its 1300 Lumens and a bit cheaper than the Garmin Varia.
It can also be mounted to a GoPro type of mount under your Garmin (if you have a mount that allows that).
Not sure if the Garmin light comes with that sort of mount as standard (I think that it does).

The Bontrager light can also pair with your Garmin head unit, but perhaps not as the actual Garmin system.

I have both Garmin lights and agree this is a great combo. I've owned the Bontrager and found the pairing iffy and the mount system hopelessly inadequate. It's quite a chunky and very well made light which it has to be when it ckattersnto the ground behind you like Darth vaders light Saber falling into the depths of the death Star.
