hi all

I have a 2018 Sram GX eagle GXP crankset (pre dub)
I recently tried to remove the crank with an extractor nut. In the process I got the extractor nut stuck. long story short I damaged the extraction thread. the thread is M22x1. M22x1 is not a common thread size from what i can tell only the cycling industry uses it and therefore the taps are scarce and expensive.

Does anyone have some advice on how to repair/rethread the thread. or can you refer me to a person with the necessary tools to do the job?

You used to be able to buy replacement left cranks, let me know what length and I'll see if the agents have any in their archives.

When i see posts like this i wonder how many people actually have these strange tap sizes laying in boxes all rusted and dying in their garage - I have a box from when i was a journeyman and inherited when i cleaned out my oldmans garage. Have a few seriously big taps still brand new in their original packaging which will probably all get binned soon. biggest i ever used was the M10 in my garage.

BTW I did go check for a M22X1.0 closest i got is M20X1.25

If you're in Gauteng I'll pickup any tool you want to chuck.

I can't let good tools die 🙈

As soon as you throw that away you will need one of them 😂 that's just how life works.

I keep things at home for a long time then take it to my workshop and it will be there for years and every time I throw something away I need it in a week or two.

I was in the same predicament a while ago. Managed to find a engineering workshop close by that had the right size. After seeing there tap collection I doubt there is actually any size and pitch they couldn't cater for.
