Ja..mmm tuff one, never had any issues myself alone, from Sun Valley intersection to Imhoff Gift turnoff, road is sketchy and in not so good condition, lotsa taxi's pedestrians and not much of a shoulder. Then from Ocean View turn-off to Scarborough coastal road turn-off, road is in good condition with nice shoulder....

Once you on the main coastal stretch to Scarborough you need to watch your six o' clock for the usual speedsters and people watching the surf and driving at the same time...road is in OK condition with some shoulder.

PS if you don't want to go along the Ocean View stretch, keep going all the way thru Kommetjie and round the point past Slangkop Light, good views and climb and road surface good but same wariness about drivers and narrow coastal roads applies!

..rather not take the road up past the right-hand edge of Ocean View, but rather keep going straight ahead for Kommetjie, and up Slangkop…

there have been a good few incidents on the Ocean view-to-4-way stop, and I avoid it myself, I know 2 people personally who have had their bike and/or cellphone taken…

Cheers

Hi Chris. Thanks for this. I actually only read your post after I did take the road up past Ocean View today. I did indeed feel a bit exposed, but at least there was traffic, and a couple of cyclists coming from the opposite direction. I took the other road past the lighthouse on my way back, and thought that is indeed the better option. At least I got a good ride in.

@capediver, thanks for your advise. I did the route today, and kept in mind what you mentioned. I don't like the Kommetjie cbd part, but otherwise it is such a lovely ride. It is amazing how cold and misty Misty Cliffs really is.

Great stuff, glad you enjoyed and yes Misty Cliffs indeed has its own climate...

Kommetjie has a cbd?? It may be well known for its other variety of cbd but a central "bizniz" district....never!🤣

Ja, I just called it a cbd. What shall I call it? The informal market plain? Not nice there, whith taxis, rubbish, pedestrians...just as you said.

There are no taxis in Kommetjie. No informal market either. Kommetjie only starts about 2 kms after you pass the robots at Imhoff Farm entrance. You might be referring to the taxi rank at Masi on your way to Kommetjie.

Is this Masiphumelele? I thoght it is part of Kommetjie.

Yep. It is Masiphumelele. Kommetjie comes after the intersection at Imhoff Farm. You have Heron Park, Ocean View and Imhoff between Masi and Kommetjie. Kommetjie is from Wireless Road to about halfway up the Slangkop climb which takes you past Soet Water and on to Scarborough. It's a small village.

Ahhh, yes, no that's not Kommetjie...that's Masi as pointed out....gotta be sharp and brisk along that section...

Riding past Masi is pretty safe. It's the deserted parts of that ride that are riskier from both a traffic and crime perspective i think.

Yep. Have never had any issues riding past Masi. Have not heard of anyone having any issues either. Traffic can get busy on that stretch at certain times of the day.

I was stoned once by kids when heading past Ocean View. It was a terrible experience. Traveling from Simon's Town-side, there is no option but to go past there, unless you opt for Redhill hills

As for Masi, there's just a lot going on with traffic, pedestrians, and other cycling commuters, so keeping one's wits is important.
