I was watching bwr content recently, blows my mind to see some of the tyres used there… some used almost the same I race road with (gp5000 32s), and some of the sections looked properly challenging on road tyres.

If Bierman lists it as a CX/Gravel tyre then that must be what it is... 😏

Good to know that I've done a 2h35 CTCT on a CX tyre, and Road SA's, and part of Killarney  ! Not a bad tyre !

I would consider a 36 maybe for a easy gravel race like Eroica, don't know Gallows

I reckon the bit through the Vrolikheid nature reserve, and the bits that skirt McGregor before heading back to Lords, would be hella sketch on anything less than 36.

I think you'll find a LOT of people (especially on BikeHub) pay way too much attention to their kit/tires/sealant/spare tube weight etc than 99% of the rest of the world who just have a bicycle and ride it, regardless of how optimal it's set up is for that specific 3% of use it gets.

I know, it's difficult to hear, but it's true.

Golfer syndrome runs deep with cyclists..... 😆

Why does Gandalf not use a wand like Harry Potter?
Because a staff has a knob on the end...

... I'll see myself out ...

I walk the dogs on the section coming back around McGregor past the dam. Lots of stones and shale.

The kinda shale that's flaky and clay-like and difficult to handle at speed, or the kind that destroys tyres and will have me sidelined (again)?

Was thinking the exact same thing.

We are still easy going compared to the gravel scene in the US.

Agree completely - marginal games is absolutely a thing.

Even Matt Beers had to adjust his game to compete - his interview on Trainer Road  was super enlightening.

Unfortunately it’s the hard and sometimes sharp shale

At least appears to not be a super fast section.
