Where can I buy cycling shorts and tops (for mountain biking)?

I'm struggling a bit to find decent range and quality of cycling gear. I have never worn these bibs so not sure about them. I have a specialised mountain bike shorts with internal padding which I love but this seems to have fallen out of favour. Where can I get decent padded inners then? I'm a bit chunky so typically need 2XL.

And tops? I dont dig these skin tight tops. Where can I get something that is a bit more appropriate for older gents?

Where are you located? Maybe try CWC or Cycle Lab but most cycle shops should stock kit that you can try for fit before you buy.

If you are in the Western Cape may I recommend you go to the "Rapid Sports" factory shop in Cape Town.  No middle man, no mark-ups, just good quality clothing at very good prices..

They DO have both bibs and cycling shorts, both with high quality chamois.

There sizing is very consistent.

Ciovita ... uhm jaaaa .... mostly okay quality.  Having had to return some of their clothing due to bad stitching I am not part of the fan club though.  Their sizing is notoriously all over the show !!!!  Sooner or later you WILL have to return something due to the sizing being way off.

Assos is a step up in the price range, but VERY nice.

On the other end of the spectrum .... First Accent is available all over SA at your local SportsmansWarehouse, and many cycling shops.  Their chamois inserts are colour coded.  RED .... okay for the odd SHORT ride, rather avoid.  BLUE is the best you get in their shorts version.  BLACK is their best chamois, BUT only available in their bibs ..... I did speak to their designer at the Argus Expo and asked that they consider re-releasing the black chamois in shorts as well.

I have persisted with the red first ascent. And in getting use dto it. Doing 4hours is fine in it now. I think rule 5 is most important. I also noticed it hurts less if I I use no bum cream

Hi,

You can take a look at our online store: www.vye.co.za

If you're Cape Town based you're more than welcome to pop in at our factory in Kensington to confirm sizing, fit and feel.

Yes indola have bibs with padding and shorts with padding they also have a range without any padding. Maybe OP found the rack with no padding and gave the next rack a miss.
