I am looking for a partner or group to join for Trans Baviaans. Really want to do this event, but cant do it single and most of the people I ride with did it before and not interested in doing it soon. So in need of a partner or partners. Regards Dsvid

Don't really want to create yet another TB thread. So hijacking this one.

With the 5AM start I sit with a bit of a logistical conundrum. I can get accommodation near Willowmore, but it seems that it sits on the beginning of the TB route. Anybody staying on that route and know if they will allow traffic back to Willowmore for the start? Will there be a 'window of opportunity', say between 3 and 4 to get back to Willowmore? The other option is to stay in Willowmore in the tented camp or the hostel. The issue I face here is, how do I get my over night bag, read pajamas\tooth brush\onderbroek etc to Jeffreys? If we do the hostel or tented camp option our support will have to leave for Jeffreys on the Friday already.

Will try my luck with accommodation in and around Uniondale as well.

Hi Edgar,

There is no road closure - I cannot see that you will not be allowed to drive to Willowmore. Our support usually stays with us and drive to Jeffries later the Saturday morning - if you so decide to stay in Willowmore I am sure that you will be able to send a bag with one of the numerous support drivers going to Jeffries that will be able to drop the stuff of with your support.

You can start anytime between 5AM and 7AM.

Received an email from Ecobound that the start is now back at 10AM. 🤷‍♂️

The TB site still states the 5-7AM rolling start. Asked them if they are certain of the 10AM start.

Would not surprise me in the least - they are not the best when it comes to comms...

They apparently received a lot of requests to revert back to the 10.00am start to try and avoid colder/wetter conditions as per the last couple of 5-7am versions.

I actually prefer the earlier start.

I can confirm I also enquired and also got a reply that start will be 10am. Directly from EcoBound.

Looking back at the last one where everyone froze their bits off it looks to me like you needed to start at 5am in order to avoid the coldest part of the day, which is just before sunrise. The 7am starters was the unfortunate ones that needed to deal with the weather AND these cold temps on the open roads and was a mess.

If you started at 5am you will be in the kloof by the time it is the "coldest part of the day" and sheltered from the wind (and windchill) that you would get on the open road.

By moving it to 10am again it would be warmer cause sun would be up. Logistically it makes sense for anyone with accommodation a bit further away and also it means everyone should in theory finish after sunset, which is what this race was originally about.

Friends drive up in a combi to do the TB.

Halve loved the early start .... saying for once they get to the actually see and enjoy the latter parts of the route.

The other halve of the group dropped back a bit and hit the serious climbs in the heat of the day (obviously not last year), they moaned bitterly that the early start does not work for them ....

Would be interesting listening to the "two halves" after the late start .....

I see website still indicates 5am rolling start.......Hmmm......

Saw that as well. I would suggest taking a screenshot of the email and keeping it close just incase.

While I am here now. Anybody come right with accommodation in the hostel for the Friday? I have emailed them and they came back with what seems like some sort of auto generated booking confirmation. But when I asked for a legit booking confirmation and how do I pay they asked for my cellphone number. Haven't received any comms since. It is starting to look like we will be sleeping in the car that Friday. Eish.

Hey guys, I too am stuck with accommodation for the repeat currently. Anyone know where we can sleep a mixed team of 4 for the night?
