Yip, get the installer to fix it or money back.

Am sorry but this is now the only way. Money was shelled out and everything must work.

Amarok came from a dealer and it didn’t have the light and anti sway, I rang the bell until they were both fitted. I did ask who will fix, I asked for a discount and they said no pay full price we fix. Now, it is fixed. Rain fire and brimstone until sorted

After all that, VW says they cant fix it and I must go back to the place that installed the tow bar 😐

This is madness!

My gut feeling is that it’s the third party harness fitted by the tow bar people that’s not playing nicely with your car’s electronics.

I’m thankful for relays closing down electronics that are being weird.
while diagnosing a non working light on a trailer today I must have shorted it. The bakkie promptly shut down all the trailer lights.
I took a break, and when I got back it was alive again, allowing me to find the broken wire and bypass it. In the old days I would have had to replace a fuse first.

So to update.

Picked up the car, asked about warranty. No it's not void, I just need to take it back to the guys who installed, get them to make it work and then take it back to VW to confirm all is correct and working.

The relief!

take rack and car to VW, the problem lies with the car.

It could be a compatibility issue with the car most likely having LED lights and the rack not, therefore the car not knowing what to do with the rack.

thats exactly the issue

its a known vw issue

i have same issue with amarok

doubt that its only VW with the issue though.

But the fix the towbar place has done tells me its defenitely the cars LED system not playing nice with the incandescent bulbs on the rack. Its probably picking up a increase in power draw and shutting the system down as it thinks there is a fault.
