What is exciting is that having the Marathon worlds here also means the rest of the cycling disciplines World Championships will/could/should be in Cape Town...........?

Yes imagine doing 427 loops around Lady Loch as part of the road race. That’s pretty much what I envision they will come up with at Csa

That’s if UCI maintains the format of hosting. By 2028 it will likely split around discipline clusters, rather than an all in format.

I imagined that it would be hosted out of Town where there would a bit of space and logistics and road closures would less of an issue.
Perhaps using some of the Durbanville/Tygerberg trail network or similarly the Stellenbosch area with its massive choice to trails there.

The press release says the route will be on Table Mountain though...

Already plotted a route for them:

Can have a Waterpoint in Hout Bay, Tokai and Dead Man's Tree

Nice route but Chappies feels like too much tar, so perhaps they loop up around Silvermine/Noordhoek Peak, Tokai, back up to Bridle path then through the wine farms to Constantia nek, towards Hout Bay, through Victorskloof and onto the missing link. Think it'll have to include some private property/sections not normally open for riding.

Higgo forest could also be a nice little singletrack spectator section if you include that too.

Yeah hence the query!?

F** it will be amazing balls if they pull it off.

I'll probably still end up riding greenbelts on the daily @DieselnDust🤣

Table Mountain a very large lump of rock littered with hiking trail. The event is 5 years away and we have a Premier with a passion for cycling so I'm sure the can make something happen that doesn't involve 5 prologue laps (which it will be if Grandstand organises it....

lets see, from next year the UCI world cups will have XCC, XCO, XCM DH and Enduro at the same venue for some of the events and all events by 2025. Discovery+ is trying to do some really good things re the coverage so it the very least I would expect all the MTB World champs events to be in the same venue.

Imbhuko challenge route alone is world class for a marathon world event. Better than Karkloof

No doubt, although better is subjective. Fortunately we’re not short of venues and route in many parts of SA to host races.

World Cups yes and for MTB. Which I love.

But for World Champs imho I think having every cycling discipline will actually limit the coverage amount and quality.
2025 is Road Cycling World Champs in Rwanda. Not sure wether or not it’s feasible hosting every single cycling discipline across the board.

In any case, will be frothing to see another world cycling event on our shores. 😃

coverage is an issue at the moment but we're planning 5 yrs into the future.

We didn't get to see the XCM races due to the cash with the Men and Ladies road events and track. There's no excuse for that other limited channels.

Infrastrcuture may be a limiter but we have a world class velodrome, world Class XCO track in Stellenbosch and plenty of good quality roads in and about the city. Real issues like lawless taxi's are more the problem than anything directly related to hosting

Subjectively it’s in Cape Town so karkloof wont work this time around

Jip, it’s all academic hey. But objectively the original post on Karkloof was in a general reference, not this time round.
