Saw a guy whose rd clutch looked like it had left the building and lots of slack on lower chain, was that him?

I saw a guy very early on in the race (before we even got to the highway), RD hanging off the bike.

Saw a dude on a dual sus mtb that had a blown rear shock, made me feel sea sick watching him bounce around the road

Think we saw him seesawing if it was him....standing climb and both ends seesawing.

There's no way so few non finishers. We saw at least 8 bikes on 2 broom wagons. Wonder if the timing mats still read or if the organisers don't want to scare newbies away? At the tail there were many nrwby-looking way under trained riders.

Looking at the results (open/seeded batches), there looked to be just over 8000 starters (8032) and 7819 finishers (recorded time). That would equate to 213 non finishers.

That said, I did see a number of riders out there that didn't appear to have timing boards so the above could be skewed.

Ah ok. I only saw 2 DNF but I suppose No Time would indicate a DNF. I said after my last Argus about 5 years ago that I was done with road racing bit I might just do the 2025 one....had a really lekker day cheering the riders on in Fourways from my camp chair - I reckon we saw 90% of the field.

you should, the new route is cool.

you get to ride the highway, in the fast lane, in the opposite direction, at speeds higher than most motorised traffic see during rush hour.

You then get to cycle around Kyalami Race Track, followed soon after by leafy old suburbs and a house that always goes all out with the Christmas decor for race day.

A couple of not so lekker bits, a challenging climb past the zoo, the iconic Mandela bridge and then back on highway closed off for our exclusive use.

Cool. I've ridden most of that route but in the opposite direction 😄

opposite direction was a hard slog from start to finish

Probably but there were some nice fast sections. I think this route is hard after Fourways?

there is still some fast sections after fourways, and the predominant wind is pushing you home.

also there feels like there are chances to recover between the climbs this way round, where it used to feel like climb after climb with not breaks in between to recover.

I see a number of people I know, on the list, without a time.
Their Strava file shows as complete, so either they rode without a timing board, or there's a problem. Here's the summary of start groups without a time.
