Finish Time

Slightly off topic.

From what I have gathered from this thread is that CTCT timing will move from Racetec to Finish Time.

What is going to happen with Racetec? It has been my 'record' of all my CTCT Tours and Karoo to Coast races.

Can someone please help an explain how to download my personal Ractec results in order to preserve a copy? Export to Excel? But I have no idea how.

Please explain very, very slowly 😅. All I know of SQL is that it is a three letter acronym!

Finishtime basically bought over Racetec, so it is one combined company now. Think its very unlikely that your Racetec results will be deleted. From what I am seeing they still use the Racetec platform for seeding and entries, and the finishtime platform just for timing. (manually copying over results to the Racetec platform for seeding).

The board itself must have broken because the cable tie and holder were still intact.

(Not saying that is you...)

That is classic for everybody claiming board failure, yet it was human failure, not threading the cable tie through the board too...

Finishtime = Racetec.
Racetec = Finishtime.

How they interact or where the database is, no one knows.
Someone bought over someone or so I've heard.
If you "download certificate" on the Finishtime website, your certificate has a Racetec logo on.

The seeding system in SA is fukutitteded

These have to be the WORST timing chips ever created. Used one last week for the Montecasino Classic via the zip tie/holder jobby that I was given and that ended up coming off in the middle of the Cradle after hitting a bump, along with that result. Yesterday I decided to rather put the chip in my pocket and play it safe and lo and behold I have no result yet again. There isn't even a proper contact method on their 'site'. Please can we rather have ONE PERMANENT timing chip thats used for all races that is actually reliable and not a piece of utter *** designed on a MS DOS platform In 2024 surely this is not a big ask.

Rant over.

They quite clearly say it must be close to the ground/mat for there to be a result. Else share your Strava file with them.

I have the Velcro ankle strap. It's worked 100%, 100% of the time. Yeah, it looks dorky, but I wear aero socks to offset the lost watts LOL

On the FinishTime website when I search my name and surname, i get one set of results. When i search my name, middle name and surname I also get different set of results.

I’ve also noticed that some events i did last year like Gravel & Grape, Ronde van riebeeck & Boland Gravel Monster are listed on FinishTime website but haven’t been ported over to Racetec. I’m not sure if this is because they weren’t PPA supported events or not but would be nice if everything could be in one place.

Your CTCT entry on your full names ?

Only those events showing your full names count towards your seeding.

Just the two of us ?  Or is this the start of big fun ....

The plastic board is probably ABS, so over tightening it may weaken the structure. Double cable ties is a good idea.

Does anyone know what reads it? No RFID that I can see, and just a tiny barcode (that surely cannot be it, can it?).

At 99er I saw the timing point at Karwyderskraal.

Scanning boxes on the side of the road.

Can only wonder about its accuracy when a wide bunch sprints through there ....

At Durbie Dash registration they made a point of it that the number must point to the LEFT.  Apparently to use video as backup.

At 99er my number was on the RIGHT of the board ...  looking at other bikes it was 50:50 left vs right.

CTCT is going to be a test of these clowns abilities ....

That is part of it.

Finish Line is yet another crowd ... they took over the MTB side of RaceTech.

Somehow their results are pulled into the same overall database used for CTCT seeding.

Uhmmm ...

This is NOT what the said at Durbie Dash, nor the illustration in the 99er race pack.

They specifically that it be mounted HORIZONTAL.

They also ask that it be mounted on the seat post.

You are confusing Racetec chip (Which is obsolete) with the new seatpost mounted Finishtime/ractech chip.
No more ankle mounting even if you want to

Aahh ok, even me 🙈 … but I’ve not touched a road event in anger in ages either.

Agree with what you say about the SAS board as well, and the newer ones are a much improved sizing too. Which could work just as well on the seatpost I’m sure.

Me was wondering... Saw a gent at Ride 4 Sight with his new Finishtime board mounted on the bike's fork, like some people used to do with their orange chips. Thought it might be too low to register.

But, on the other leg, so to speak, some of us being so short, the seatpost option might as well have been the fork mount.. 😜😎

With the 99er entry we got a small page speaking about how and where to mount the chip - behind the seat post.

The page carried on to say IF you are going to mount it "any where else" to make sure it is mounted horizontally.

Maybe an electronics guru can explain why this horizontal thing is so important ....

Remember when you turned your SABC yagi antenna 90-degrees and it stopped working? The signal has a polarity and sender and receiver need to be aligned.
