Biggest challenge there in Open Seeded is that you never know who is going to enter.

One of the Jankielsohn (from Piketberg) won the Open Cat 4 years ago. Warick Minkley took it 3 years ago (he was recovering from Covid and decided not to ride Age Cat), I won it two years ago, and not sure on last year (I did a different Tour). This year I rode Age Cat, but believe a guy, who probably should have ridden Age Cat, won the Open Cat.

True, I believe the top 4 in open seeded could have been racing in age cat. There were 4 nationalities represented in the top 4 and plenty more overall.

1. Japan 2. Belgium 3. RSA 4. UK

Someone in the bunch mentioned that when still Tour du Boland that there was almost 1000 people? If they improve couple of things this could be way bigger than currently is. Although they cater for 150 in open cat (according to 150 marketing emails), on the last day there was max 25 people.

I see 40+ top 3 is in the 12 hours and top3 Open 1 hour behind, so not too sure if they would've really belonged in age cat, also their TT times were 3 mins down on what was done by podium guys in age cats.

Also 30-39 was together with the elites, so if you're not comfident you can ride in that bunch, rather go open, otherwise you're going to have a long week of racing alone after getting dropped in the first couple km of each stage that started full gas, and that's best case scenario, if you can handle yourself in such a fast paced/tight bunch and keep it upright.

Agreed. However, I still believe the top 4 could have stayed in their respective age category bunches. Given the relative strength (or lack thereof) in the open category, the average speeds are lower. I’m not suggesting they would have podiumed in the racing categories - just that, based on their performance, they likely could have kept up with the bunch.

Below is Taketoki's CTCT time, starting in @.

Trying to get the open numbers up for next year! Wish they can do the same for the racing groups.

Following the amazing success of the Tour and the inspirational events that transpired in the open bunch at the recent inaugural event, Wealth Associates has committed a sponsorship specifically to the open bunch.

A very special initiative will see Wealth Associates partnering with the Tour de Cap to pay back R250 of the entry fee to every rider in the open bunch if the open bunch exceeds 100 riders, and a further R250 per rider if the bunch exceeds 200 riders.

Regarding the above about discounted entries, it might be an old news post on their website, because they mention 2021 year in the article. Old and new news mixed together and not sure what is current or not.

Again, such a super slot for a week tour, but lets be honest, such a bad event run currently.

Ja - it really is a pity that devilliers cycling doesn't do a better job with the marketing and positioning of T du C. Spoiling the ship for a h'pennyworth of tar - communication, marketing, positioning of the event in front of a target audience just so poor.

Such potential to attract all the upcountry and international visitors coming to do the CTCT ...

As chief marketing officer I've gone from not entering to making it the main focus of training through winter after the Tankwa Grit and 36one -
