Why don't you take your rant elsewhere....If you read the thread I did ask my Urologist who prescribed me, who is based at the Donny Gordon teaching facility and has lead my treatment, with an Oncologist and he said it shouldn't but was uncertain. In recognition that it's outside of his speciality I brought the query here in the belief that the Hub membership extends beyond yourself, and might actually include those with some knowledge, as has been the case.

Rant over and hoping youv'e joined that lovely day....☺️

You and Tim should meet

Tim's involvement in the cycling industry over the years is extensive, the least of which is having been the Editor and chief at Bicycling Magazine for a long time.

Instead of throwing grumpy banter at each other, you might learn something from one another.

Instead of just being a 'community' on Bikehub on the Forums, we can try to extend it into real life too.

🥰

Cool. Not wanting to pi$$ in anyone's boots.

Medical advice is NOT what I was looking for and I don't think my post said that, if it alluded thus, I apologize, I was just asking about effects in general,  not guidance as to taking meds or a treatment plan etc etc.

I asked my Urologist a few visits ago, broadly.....and he said it wouldn't affect heart rate but he's a bit tunnel-visioned iro the core issue at hand ...

If I was a Urologist, I'd sue you for hinting that I might suffer from "tunnel vision" .......................... I mean, WTF bro, that's how we get to the "core issue" in this profession 👈

Ummmm, you maybe missed the subtle pun ....he's looked up many tunnels, including both of mine....

That's me leaving through the door....

I read it, it's one of my more honed skills, and I apologise if you thought it was a personal attack. It wasn't meant to be.

It just blows my mind how many people (again, not aimed at you) mess with their health by asking for potentially threatening advice from completely the wrong people. I just don't get it.

My apologies if I pissed you off - not the goal at all. This cancer thing is *** scary all round, and maybe my don't-be-a-Richard pills hadn't kicked in yet.

Beyond that, what a day it is in Cape Town.

All lekker. Sorry if I took offence. I wouldn't ask for medical advice, to the point I'm acquainted with a Specialist out where we ride but would never ask for free advice.

Joburg sucks during winter. CTN wet winters are waaaay better.

👍

Thanks. Looks like the cancer is in remission. PSA has been dropping nicely for a year with a recent "bounce" which can be expected. Next test in 5 months time will be more of a decider.

I'm in agreement with what you say and in layman's terms was thinking that whatever causes the elevated heart rate might affect actual max HR and as it relates to perceived effort

I have been keeping the efforts reasonable.

Initially I was taking Uromax daily and for the last few months every second day, and Urologist happy with this. (Previously I tried stopping it but after a few days had to restart). I've tried stopping taking it and am on day 3 and will see what happens

The risk stopping Uromax isn't high as if I feel like it's getting more uncomfortable passing urine I can start up again. I might go to taking every 3 days etc etc

Are you riding with a saddle that has a cutout for pressure relief? this is more a question about your thoughts on its effectivity if you are using one than a recommendation.

Nope. I'm riding quite a flat saddle. I don't find any issues after a ride but it's something I'd look into but have to save my $ for day to day bike maintenance. I've always preferred a flat saddle and nothing soft. I try to make sure I'm sitting on my sit bones and saddles usually flat or verrrry slightly nose down.

I don't think cycling has ever adversely affected my PSA as it's come down from around 6 to below 1. I'd need to check the actual numbers but beyond a 0,5% small bounce in the last year my PSA has come down and Urologist happy....

PSA levels and urinary capability are not completely linked - the PSA relates to the cancer - the urinary flow can relate to localised obstruction (swelling), and I am interested if the cutout would improve your flow over time - this is total speculation on my part that it might help - some people think it does - other not.

I don't think it will help as not cycling made no difference.

Preceding my diagnosis I would have generally always had to stand in a fire to put it out....😁

I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in May 2023 and had the Brachy in June 2023 and am still on the Uromax daily.

Our time lines are virtually identical but i have no max heart rate issues. Maybe i'm just lucky.

Covid on the other hand not so nice on the breathing after 2 years.

Interesting, thanks. My brother went through the same thing 5 years ago except for him the Brachy Was a non-event, much like the biopsy. He stopped taking Uromax after probably 3 months.....go figure ...

I meant to ask - have you tried to wean off of or stop the Uromax at all? I had a torrid first12 months with my best times being in the bathroom - initially every hour day and night which isn't conducive to sleep. That was for about 5 months and things gradually started to improve. Now at night the best I can muster is 3 1/2 hours. On my first rides around the 29km Cradle, I had to stop twice in a lap but it's improved a lot. I tried to stop Uromax entirely just before my last Urologist visit about a month ago but after 3-4 days I got very uncomfortable. I'm trying again, last Uromax was Friday at17:00 so holding thumbs ...

GO SEE A SPORT MEDICINE PROFESSIONAL.  I had the same issue, felt like I had a block of wood stuff under my preverbal accelerator, but since seeing a real specialist and sports Dr I am hitting my PR's and Hearts that I haven't seen in years.  Not all medicines are made the same and neither are we humans.  So go see someone, have them tailor your medicine protocol to your individual body.  Please, GO see and specialist.

I havn't had any noticeable side effects and my Urologist said continue to take them. In the beggining i missed few days and felt it so since then i havn't tried again.

👍 I'm trying to quit. Last one was Friday. Even if I don't make it permanently it's been longer than last time. But passing urine has slowed but can live with it
