@NicholasH Quick question - do I understand the website correct that no substitutions are allowed? I entered early but a school activity unexpectedly popped up for Sat Morning, would not want my entry go to waste.

Does that mean you have a taker on your entry already? 👀

More good news 😁👌

We have just received confirmation that our application for full road closure for Adderley/Koeberg roads all the way from Philadelphia road has been granted 😀

This is a first for any road event in Durbanville. Thus, the last 15km we get full use of both lanes right up to the finish.

Praise the Lord 🙏

So like a chump I thought this race was on sunday and domestic planning was done around this assumption, the end result being that I have no car on saturday morning. If anyone is passing through stellenbosch and is happy to give me a ride to the race start (and home), I'd appreciate it. Some info:

  1. I'm likely starting group D/E and don't mind getting there early/waiting late.
  2. I'm more than happy to pay for petrol
  3. I plan on picking up my number on friday, so could pick up yours too (if this is allowed at the 99er, I know people have done it for other races) and bring it to you the day before.

DM me if you're happy to help.

I'm expecting awkward silence.....

Awesome!

Maybe a bit of a noob question but I've only completed 2 road races in my time - will there be distance markers for the last few hundred meters towards the finish line? In both the Durbie Dash and Winelands cycle race the finish line has caught the group by surprise. Was really disappointing as there could've been a good sprint to the line.

I believe I saw 10km and 1km to go signs at winelands. Though if you're moving fast its tough to see

Yep I saw those too, but would be nice to have 500m, 400m etc. boards. Like in Durbie Dash, the finish line was just over a crest so we couldn't see it until we were right over it.

Jip, couple of boards counting down the distance at Winelands, even a 500m board.  But negotiating traffic (cars) and a lot of bikes made a fun towards the end.  Especially for those of us heading towards the end with the short course riders as well.  Of all things I had a Toyota Fortuner that fell back and waved me through as he could see me being held up by the heavy traffic.

bump ... 😉

Sure you will get a lift from the CL or CFM crowd.  Failing which we can make a plan.  Which side of Stellenbosch ?

I didn't see them but speed wasn't my problem. I think it was the tears that blurred my vision.

Thanks Chris. Yeah I'm not TOO stressed, I was in two minds about doing this race so if it doesn't work out it's not the end of the world.

I'm on the Somerset West side of Stellenbosch, Paradyskloof.

You can fetch someone else number. Just have a letter saying as much, with their ID number and signature on it
