LegsEleven Posted February 6 Posted February 6 Hi all, does anyone know how far in advance the prologue route is open for people to ride prior to the event? I know it’s open on registration day but I would prefer not to do the whole route immediately before 8 days of floggery? it’s a shame that day passes for Tygerberg doesn’t allow traversing of the whole area. Buying an annual permit isn’t the most economical choice for people who don’t live in the area.
milky4130 Posted February 6 Posted February 6 Not even the local club members would get to ride the entire Prologue route as it is a special route just for Cape Epic. So there is zero chance of riding the entire prologue before registration day. Best bet for you is to take the Cape Epic Holiday Membership Permit which was available since December until 15 March for R595. Then that will allow you to ride bits and pieces of the route. That gate is shut so no chance of getting in there. However the rest of the route is accessible. You are essentially only missing out on the Faircape part which links Meerendal to Hoogekraal. You’d still be able to do a decent recce of the route.

I have tried looking for the “Stairway to heaven” climb on Trail forks but can’t find where it is. Is it in Contermanskloof trails?

I assume for the epic you will come up to Dorstberg initially from the jeep track so not the normal route club members will go. Epic Route: Meerendal start > Top of Dorstberg > Down into Faircape > Cross over into Hoogekraal > Down shake rattle & roll > Cross over into missing link > Back to Meerendal > Stairway to Heaven Recce Route: Meerendal start > Stairway to Heaven > Top of Dorstberg > Back down Dorstberg to start > Traverse to Hoogekraal > Down shake, rattle > Cross over into missing link > Back to Meerendal. This will cover around 80% of the route, albeit not in the same order.

Looking forward to hitting the trails in a few weeks Just note that will require 2 x trail permits, 1 for Meerendal R60 and 1 for Hoogekraal R75 as all farms operate independently. With the exception of one or 2 where 1 permit will cover two or more farms. DieselnDust and LegsEleven 2
