Yep. My kiddo got her 26” XS end of 2022 having spent about 18 months on 20” a BMX - beginning of last year we reckoned she had 2 years left on the 26” - middle of last year we realised 1 year - and as of December she’s on a M 27.5 😂 (she’s 10) and she can ride my M 29” with my own seat height on non-technical stuff 🤯

height/leg length is probably a better indication than age. if my maths is correct, you put an 8yr old on a 26" and skipped 24" outright. I would guess she is pretty lanky to make that work.

I am on the opposite end of the scale. my 10yr old is still on his 20". we got him a 24" but he didn;t want to move over. That then got stolen before we sold the 20" so he's back on that for now (want to get a decent bike, and they are hard to find).

I don't believe in buying bikes a size too big with the intention to grow into. if you buy and sell 2nd hand then the hit you take is not massive.

also, you can learn a lot on the "riding with kids thread"

Quite right Shebeen. She channels her inner orangutan when it comes to her appendages 😂 and was always tall for her age. But not sure whether OP has an orangutan child as well so worth the question.

He is short and definitely not an orangutan type 😅😅. The 16 is the safer bet
