I used to cycle a lot, but had to stop for health reasons about 7 yrs ago :( Miss it alot.

My bikes have been standing in my garage for a while now, and it's time to sell them off to someone who will use and enjoy them.

Having been out the cycling game for years, I have no sense of value or what I should try sell them for.

Could I post them here, and is anyone able to give me some guidance or a range?

…since the Forum-part of the BikeHub is not a SALES channel, i do think it is fair to ask for advice/opinions, then promptly move actual selling of them over to the Buy & Sell part of the forum, to sell them; the Mods can be quite strict on this, but i think go ahead, and ask!

Bikes and gear lose about 50% of its value as soon as it leaves the shop floor. You'll end up getting between 25% and 40% of retail value for a 7 year old bike, provided it's well looked after.

thanks for the offer to assist.

Bikes are a bit grubby - will clean them up and service prior to selling

I have no idea about the road bike.

I spend a fair bit of time in the classifieds.

Very little market for 26” these days and you can get second hand kids bikes with 1x drivetrains and disc brakes in really good nick for R3000-R5000.

Honest guesses from my side would be pretty much value of parts on each bike. I’d say like R4000 for the dualsus and R1200 for the kids bike. You could ask more but I think that’s what you would realistically get in the current market, sold as complete bikes.

You could strip the 26” down and see if you’d get more for the parts, assuming they are all functional. Hard to tell from the pics what is dirt and what is scratches/ageing, so these values could go either way.

Just for context.  Ultegra 6500 release date was 1997. Therefore we look at road bike that can be anything between 25 to 28 years old.

My advice would be rather try sell these bikes on Facebook market place / Gumtree in your region / neighborhood to avoid shipping cost / courier cost.

Here's my estimate values for which I will probably flamed for.

Kids bike R500- R700

Mtb : R1500

Road bike : R1500 - R2000

If stored that long, most probably all will need new tyres tubes cable etc

Rust might also be a concern.

Good luck.

These were about my estimates as well, whether someone would actually buy them is another story.

These bikes are prime "give it away to someone who wants to try cycling to see if it works for them" fodder. I started my mtb and road bike journey on bikes like these, which I got for free, used for a few months, and passed on to the next candidate after a few months.

Or perhaps to someone that commutes so they can save on transport money
