a guy was knocked down right in front of me this morning doing the Engen Classic.

head-on collision with an Audi.  the poor guy flew right over the car.

the guy is OK' date='  but the bike was in 3 pieces.

this was 100% our fault - going the wrong way around a traffic circle as we do every single morning!

one might think that the pack learnt something from this,  but 20 minutes later it was more of the same!

- still a hell of a ride though!!!!

Isn't it precisely this type of behaviour that causes half the collisions with cars and leads to the aggression and abuse we all feel the brunt of?

Surely as a well known group/club/whatever you should be doing everything within your powers to promote road safety and encourage a harmonious relationship between cyclists and other road users.

Why doesn't Cycling South Africa do something like a cycling awareness campaign?

It is not about awareness but rather about attitude.  Most of us have drivers licences and abotained it legally by doing the tests.  Does not stop people from driving like absolute idiots.

Or people from riding their bikes like idiots.

Dr Seuss, your bunch is obviously full of the type of riders that cause all the trouble the rest of us have to live with. i personally refuse to ride with bunches that ride like that and i have been known to quit a ride to do my own thing if that type of behaviour flourishes.

i know it sounds harsh, but absolutely NO SYMPATHY from my side for the rider concerned and i hope that the driver recoups all damages to his vehicle from said rider.

There's nothing you can do. I was taken out by a woman in a black merc - who then proceeded to drive away. I have her registration number, an eyewitness, her address, even have her ID number. The police didn't even question her. The only thing you can do is assume everyone is out to kill you.

I wanted to say that but then everybody would think I don't have a heart. I do, it's under my bed.

Anyway. Slowpoke, I gave up looking for ride partners because I could not find any that adhere to traffic rules.

They did. It was called "Cycle Safe". It lasted just as long as what the stickers did.

Jip i put a sticker on my car and after the first wash it was gone, the new BEN tops are quite good, they are in yellow, and on the back it says Cycle Safe with an arrow indicating 1.5m.

mampara, i can vouch for Drivetrain, MichH, amateur, ewep, ianJ, sonic, moonlight, KingCompass and a couple of others as being adherants to the laws of the road (just sonic has been known to rear-end stationary vehicles in the emergancy lane.... Wink)

in fact, i will only ride with people who DO adhere to the laws so i have a lot of non-hubber ride buddies i can also vouch for!

okokok, sorry d-r... but YOU knew what i meant.

(i'll be able to vouch for you obeying laws of the road once the day comes that i do a road ride with you and have recovered from the shock and horror of seeing you on skinny tyres Wink as to the laws of mtb - you follow them perfectly, including the one about taking care of your ride budies, especially the fairer ones in the group Big%20smile )
