That see-saw rocks. I came off that thing face first. The trick is to pick yourself up and laugh :] tell yourself that that was stupid and then go and do it again the following spruit ride

Its part of the sport.

Karkloof this year was sorted. Last year had one serious bottleneck.

Linnega' date=' we don't all ride to race. We treat these rides as fun rides to ride areas we wouldn't normally ride on. The flip side is if you want to ride dirt roads fast and have to walk technical stuff, stick to the road. There are plenty of us guys who enjoy these rides but don't enjoy riding with that taste of lactic acid in our throats. We are not competitive and will quite gladly move out of someones way if they are flying past but appreciate the same courtesy when we are enjoying "riding" and not walking the technical stuff.

No problem with that.  It does seem to me though that many mountain bikers need to be a little more open-minded.  You ride Karkloof with 3000 other people - most will come from the road originally.  But you know that going in.  Would seem a little ridiculous to expect people not to enter because you want an open track.

i agree, if you cant ride it, dont. and if you do, your brain has probably already assessed the dangers. so its your undoing if you come off. so if you want an easier route, that person must go build a bridge, literally, and get over it.

Ok, I don't really know how to reply to this post with tact, so I'm not going to try.

You really expect to go to a race (with your so called technical skills) and because you can ride anything you expect everyone else to make space for you ride down.

My suggestion is to spend a little time getting fitter and try to stick with the top 20 and I guarantee you won't have to walk anywhere.

If you're not prepared to do this, wait your turn.

Don't think this is a SA thing, seen the same occur through out the world where mountain biking has become popular.

Have to say though, the moaning thing is completely out of tune with spirit of mountain biking.

Those that moan about how hard/technical/rocky/thorny the courses are should have seen the riding in the early ninetys and that was on rigid bikes when clip in pedals and shocks were gadgets.

Top 20? LOL! RESPEK if that is your level.

No one is expecting a clean track. Just when you are coming up on someone and you are coming through and you ask them politely to move over when there is a gap they oblige

Rode the Sani2C Adventure and the vibe was fantastic. A few obstacles in particular personified the spirit of this "race"( term that is used loosely here). We were all queueing at certain obstacles and you had the option to ride/walk. The guys behind weren't stressed that you waited for the riders below to clear the line so you could ride.Thumbs%20Up

How about this for a thought. The guys who pump the hill spend some time on their skills so that their technical riding improves to their hill climbing ability.Hug

At the very least tho, i think if something is outside a person's skill level to attempt and there are 30 people waiting behind you to ride the obstacle that u're unclipping to walk down/across, that people can move off the line n let you pass. I often get to sections, even on jeep track, where 2 people will be walking side by side talking n when u ask for clear track they turn n give you daggers...

Every1 has there strengths n weaknesses, just seems that the sand road speedsters have it lucky enuff that there's ample room to pass a slower rider when it's your turn to come alive. Us technical enthusiasts (especially me at 90kg's) don't get to enjoy the difficult stuff as much... But, i am on diet and am training my ass off to get fitter n faster to be at the front...

I have a bell on my MTB and just tink, tink, tink it occasionally when approaching slower riders. You'll be amazed how effective it is. Nobody gets irritated with it and they just move aside when they get a chance. BBB bell ? best R40 I ever spent on bike accessories.

we sell little ones for R5 at the shop?but more often than not give them away. would like to sort of echo what dassie said though: there is way too much aggro from the faster guys, but there is also way too much inertia from the slower guys. the first bottle neck at eston was unforgiveable. any newbie coulda ridden that little bridge. that said, it was nice joking with some of the other riders in the queue.

I suppose the point is that riding an MTB is fun.  The aggro makes it less so which is a pity.  Agree, Holy, some of the queues are avoidable if guys just keep momentum.  Someone commented about Sani2C adventure.  The vibe there was excellent.  There I rode day 2 even slower than usual as my downtube was cracked and the rear sliding around like crazy (plus a throbbing in my elbow that had been skinned by a rock), and felt no pressure from behind even down Nicks pass.

linnega, chatted to nancy drew this weekend, and she said the same thing about that race. everyone just chilled in the queues (apparently nancy and her mate were popular with all the boys, cos they had spicy baby potatoes in their camelbaksLOL). the aggro is one of the reasons i have only done one race this year; prefer to just get out there and ride.

Seem to be more and more people looking for the same thing on a ride. Going to support the guys in Paulpietersburg as I think they are on the same wavelength. Sabie Experience is another one where people are a bit more relaxed.

Sean, when's your birthday? I wanna get you some tassles for your bar ends. No seriously, a bell is such a good idea. Funny how people almost laugh at you when you tink, tink, tink them.
