I don't know where you got your info from' date=' but D2D was definitely UCI - see http://www.dome2dome.co.za/eventinformation.php [/quote']

Organisers phoned the teams?  Thats the info I got......mmmmm....

As for the A bunch' date=' I don't object to the rules, so long as they are uniform. I can't tell you how many times I've been forcefully downgraded to A because I've left my license at home.  [/quote']

LOLLOL

There you have it......our WONDERFUL CSA system.

Next time just tell them you left you license at home.  Wink

The real irony here is that I collected Jules's entry for him. When I asked the CSA ladies if he could be moved to the Open Category they replied that he could not as he had a full racing licence. They then gave me his entry envelope and goodie bag - WITHOUT ASKING TO SEE HIS LICENCE - which I did not have with me as he was actually wanting to move to the Open Cat.

I think the consensus is that there is a mixed bag of what everyone perceives the rules to be. I wish the rules were clear cut' date=' I have only done a few races as a licensed vet and have not had a good experience thus far. Last race I did, I was told my number was too small. The race before that, I was told that my bike number was supposed to be around the top tube, I though it looked better cable tied to my seat stem.

I see the requirement to be professional, but when the different cycling bodies dont make the rules freely available, professionality turns to mickey mouse.

Doug the rules are actually available from CSA in a little booklet, and include such pearlers as 'Socks must be white and ankle length'. However, the rules tend to be arbitrarily enforced....rather focus on enjoying the race and the other guys who will, together with you, shake their heads at the system which seems geared to harassing you rather than helping and supporting. One of the biggest diffs I noticed with MTB racing is when you show up, everyone (officials) is so chuffed you are there to do the race, they are there to help not hinder......

Absolutely, these guys are there to harass. My love affair with CSA goes right back to when I was a schoolboy racer of no more than 16.

I entered the 4-stage under 16 tour and, being a beginner rider of limited resources, ran out of clean plain black shorts. Thus, I raced the last stage, a 20km TT in black shorts with "ONCE" written down the side.

Judging by the reaction of the officials, you'd have thought that I had committed murder. They'd listen to no amount of reasoning and fined me in Swiss Francs! I was still in school, for goodness sake! That is not the way to develop the sport.

I doubt that any commercial interests were damaged by a 16 year old of mediocre talent giving ONCE a free plug on a single stage of a tour in an obscure location in South Africa. Nevertheless, UCI rules were stringently applied.

I don't think anything has improved in the next 12 years of my racing career. You are treated like a prisoner in a concentration camp.

I agree with intern: you don't find this sort of petty, power hungry bureaucracy at MTB races.

ye I guess you are right. I love my road riding, dont get me wrong, mtb is great too, I'm a huge fan. Would just be nice to ride a road race without the thought of 'they have taken my number, wonder if they are gonna dq me too' lingering in the back of my mind.

Guys it is not the UCI rules that causes these problems it is the officials who interpret them the way they want to. To me it depends on their mood on the day.

Nothing that a hot cup of coffee, a muffin and a big smile can't sort outLOL

I WAS PLAYING DODGEM BIKES ON THE WAY TO THE FINISH , ALL THE SHORT DISTANCE SLOW RIDERS ALLOVER THE ROAD WITH NO CLUE OR MANNERS , THE BUNCH I WAS WITH WAS SHOUTING FOR ABOUT 15KM .

THE ORGINISERS SHOULD MAKE DIFFERENT LANES FOR THE DIFFERENT DISTANCES , IT WILL BE SAFER FOR EVEYONE.wE WHERE DOING ABOUT 30KM/H AND THESE GUYS ARE DOING ABOUT 15KM/H AND YOU DONT KNOW WHAT THEY WIL DO NEXT , GO LEFT , RIGHT OR STRAIGHT.

[/quote'] Cannot agree with you more, Think lanes will help and a brief at the start, and marshalls enforcing it. I had a tannie decide to stop en stoot on the narrow diepkloof road, and she decided to dismount towards the inside of the road. did some offroading only to have her shout at me, would have laughed if I was not dying.

and if it was not for those people pushing their bikes and wanting to learn about cycling and get fit and get into the sport, you would not have a race to ride in.

Respect is a two way street.
