I was Jaco Kellerman's second in the Elite race on the day...  the one that OB won...

 

Aha! And I remember who OB's second was, his dad, Dries, also a former SA road champ if I'm not mistaken. Was a killer course that!

 

I remember doing the Investec Vets Tour in Graskop in 1990 (I was obviously not a Vet - they had an amateur category) and having dinner at Dries Oberholzer's restaurant. There was a huge live python there as you walked in. He kept us very entertained with his old racing stories. Tough, old-school guy. Can see where OB gets his character from.

From what I hear this oke is streets ahead and it has nothing to do with training hard. That sort of 'competitor' may add spice, but I'd prefer a dose of ethics thanks.

 

 

Don't worry intern, you guys will have teams and he'll be racing alone. Bit like DvG only older and more tanned and less personable...

You really should Sean. Interview people like Martin Saunders and Gary Beneke who rode on the same team as him. They have some fantastic OB stories to tell
