Just keep your beer intake to 3 on the route - 4 is juuuuust to many and spread them nicely - so maybe 1st at Brass Bell or somewhere in Simonstown then maybe the Red Herring or Champmans Peak Hotel (refueling for Suikerbossie) and then a final victory beer either in Camps Bay or La med. After the ride of course there are no restrictions so celebrate a great event in a beautiful cityTongue

Best advice is, if you are not a member of a club, join a club. Seeing that you are from the Western Cape, there will be a couple of seasoned Argus riders in the club. Pick their brains with pertinent questions. Cycle as often as you can with the club. If it is an established club, they will/should have their own group/seeding system. Join the one that matches your current abilty.

Try and do the  Argus route with your club (should you be living close enough to be able to do it) Don't think you will legaly be able to do the Blue route section, though.

Try and get a Training program (like the one in the Training Diary that Andrew McClean has written, available from CNA) There is a training program in there that is quite usefull. There is also a lot of other cycling tips in there.

Most important, get on your bike, ride with groups as often as you can, and ENJOY IT!!

There will be a lot of other tips in the Cycling mags from early next year (there always is, even if it is reruns) Read these, sometimes they are usefull.

There, I hope this will help you more than the other flippant answers you got from the "vets" on thehub, that seems to have forgotton that you are a newby to the Hub.Wink

I guess road and MTB has their nemeses. Road... Don?t get killed by the cars. MTB... Don?t get killed by the vagrants... <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

WHAT? Are you saying there's people out there that don't drink beer, eat red meat and party all night? WHY? LOL

I think it is some sort of blood poisoning. Most common cause seems to be shaving ones legs.

No Hagar' date=' I think all booties are toffie. No point for their existance in a normal road race and absolutely no place on a MTB.

When last did you do a mid winter night ride near a river on your MTB. One of my best buy's for the year was thermal booties, bought specifically for night riding in winter on my MTB.

Sorry I should have said lycra booties of all colour, not just yellow. I don't have a problem with true winter overshoes.

Shame on you, guys. This poor newby asked a honest question, and you hijack the thread and run off with it in a different direction. Not Nice!!

Look like you have scared him/her away!

Shocked Take that back!!!

My only advice would be to spend as much time as you can on your bike (and yes, the result will be that your non-cycling buddies will hate you! LOL).  Join a cycling club or find someone who will train with you ... make new friends Wink

the 2 most important things while riding in a group is

1)don't overlap the rider in front of you's back wheel. A sudden swerf and he takes you out.

2)while in a group and your'e not in front, don't look back, because you will fall and take others with you.

Good luck, and welcome to cycling.Hug Find a second job, because once hooked, you will want to upgrade.LOL
