Spectrum Sport put other timing co's to shame

I did the Johnson Cycle race at Northern Farm today.

Great race and to find a 35km lap in there and it was a brilliant route - well done to the organising team.

Spectrum Sport did the timing and their service easily puts other timing companies to shame. I don't know what time the results were available, but they are up already!!

I checked at 17:00 and the results were available online.

The metadata in the doc state as follows:

Created: 2008/09/28, 16:15:04

Modified: 2008/09/28, 16:30:08

Looks like some time between 16:30 and 17:00 then!

Definitely a good show by them, and much appreciated!

With a service like this (Logwood Classic results were posted the same day as well) the other companies will have to pull a rabbit out of a hat to beat them!

They are good for MTB races where riders finish mostly in trickles, but for road races with huge bunch finishes their system will not work. scotty2008-09-28 23:00:44

I also did the race. Thought I knew the Farm but man did they take me into places I'd never seen before! I had a ball! Only did the 35km ride but I found it very challenging. Some nice single track, lots of climbing and some cruel deviations. But, hey! I'm a newbie to mtb, so what do I know? Interested to hear what other peeps thought of the ride.

Scotty, I agree with you. Last year they did the timing on the Midvaal Vets Tour .. results took a while before appearing on their website ... for on-road races, I have to give my Thumbs%20Up to Championchip for local races!!!

winning time still have not put the campus2campus results on and they the leaders in sports timing????

Winningtime is not consistent with publishing results ... some of the races like the Lost City, they were excellent with publishing their results ...

I've been signing the praises of Spectrum Sport for some time now, and must say I havn't seen anything from Champion Chip or Winning Time that makes them any better than SS. In fact the reverse. SS seem to be standardising on organiser supplied chips for both Triathlons and MTB races. Well done guy's.

Just an idea for SS to make their service any better. How about linking your results database using either CSA / TSA licence number or ID number so that users can view all their results in one place. If you need help designing the database schema for this let me know.

I have to agree - I've done quite a few of their duathlons now and the results are quick, correct and consistent.

I'm not sure about their "big race ability" but they certainly excel in the small/medium market.

Spectrum and ChampionChip are by far the timing leaders in SA. WinningTime - well what can we say - they have improved from useless to really bad.

They also do all the babbas lodge events and results are up at 7:00pm that night, awesome work guys. We were just discussing this yesterday while trying to beat the wind on the second lap at Northern Farms.

I would rather buy a personalised SS number board than have to try remember what number I might've been ......... any chance of this becoming reality?
