PeterM Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 I am a rookie; have done my first Argus this year and will be trekking to JHB next month to do the 94,7. Really looking forward to race at high altitude. But I am getting no clear answer ? ?Is the 94,7 or the Argus tougher?? Looking at the numbers ? many must have done both races and might be able help?!? What is your personal experience?<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
4ph3X Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 i've only done the argus. and it's only as tough as you want it to be!
Joe Low Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 94.7 takes less time but average speed is less than argus. Shova is tougher than both. Sat on 3hr delayed plane out of durbs - that's also tough.
Danger Dassie Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 Think they're both pretty much on par overall.... but location wise I reckon the Argus takes the cake.Joburg is a s*$t hole, save your cash for another visit
turtlek Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 94.7 is tougher because of the hills factor but the argus is toughr because of the wind and BM factor(BM= Big match) why i say BM factor is because everyone wants to do thier best argus for bragging rights back home or for the next bunch ride to be honest the guys in the argus are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too tense the road is big enough for everyone but in the excitement of people wanting to beat each other especially the testosterone filled A bunch there are always much worse crashes in the argus than in 94 so enough of my rant Argus is tougher mentally 94 is tougher physically
FanieFiets Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 Depends on what group you ride and how fit you are. Easy as that.
markStockton Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 Done neither, but entered both , so I can't comment. Rode 94.7 route yesterday from Zoo Lake to Kyasands, only one really tough climb, going up to the Randburg taxi rank. Warning to all, there is a terrible trench across Cumberland road near the top, I really hope they fix that.

ccc2 Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 What are the 1st 15 k's like. Argus has Hospital Hill, Uct and then Edinburgh Drive , if you overcook the effort here you normally die on Chappies and Suikerbossie.
jpb13 Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 I agree with dassie 100% there's just no place like good ol' ct
