Mmm' date=' and the single track, technical sections BMX track and pump tracks at northern boring farms are far superior too i suppose. I for one will be 1st in line for an annual membership to the new park and will be quite happy for the trails to be less cluttered with technically impaired MTBaaikers bitching about paying for a quality, secure, purpose built place to hone their skills and provide gauteng with the variety our sport desperately needs...[/quote']

Clap

I'm with you on that one!

Hell i think i'm rather gonna keep the money i was gonna spend on a trip to whistler next year n rather go to northern farm for a week. ooh, or maybe even treat myself to mecca of mountain biking we all know as the spruit... That's free, well except when you're relieved of your bike, wallet, camelbak and riding kit and left flagging down cars for a ride home with your tool in your hand...

There is always the Hector Norris BMX track for R5.

I seriously think the prices are way too high.

My time at Logwood is done, unless i hear they do some serious work on the NS and berms, the 45min drive and R50 is not worth it.

As for the new park, I will definately try it once but then will see if its really worth the cash.

I honestly think if the prices were lower they would get alot more ppl going more frequently, I for one would.

I find it strange how so much money is spent on bikes, parts and then bling but yet a world-class bike park is not supported? I spend as little as possible on my bike, do my own maintenance and use that money saved to go on cycling-camping weekends.

Just found a new reserve on Google Earth and will head out there this weekend with the bike and the tent.

Call me crazy but I think that spending money on a well-built bike park is a good place to spend it.

i think is great idea. will go a long way to keep some children off the streets. and maybe, with the initial costs  paid for , will the entry fee be lowered.

but with Groenkloof just 10km from where i live - it's a case of local is lekker ....

And how does an 11-year-old kid in Randburg or Sandton get to Hector Norris Park? BMX-only fee at the new bike park will be R100 per month. I pay R30 a shot every time I drop my 11-year-old at a skate park. A new Playstation game costs around R400. I think R100 a month unlimited access is very reasonable.

I think it's opening the weekend after 94.7. Hundred bucks per month for a BMX pass confirmed today.

I think it will be good, but not world class. I doubt it people from all over the world will flock to it like they do to Wistler, Fort/Camp whatever there in Scotland or so many others.

And why must I support something when it does not appeal to me/cater for my needs? I'm not gonna watch a Leon Schuster movie just because it a local movie.

The term "world-class" seems to be thrown around quite frequently when speaking of biking locations/parks lately.  Well here's my 2c:  We don't need a world-class bike park - we need good local parks first.  Yes Whistler is awesome - you probably won't find a better park in the world.  It has over 200km of trails, averages more than 100,000 visitors a summer but it also costs R500 per day to get into and is 1:30 drive from the city. now how many hubbers would drive to a local "Whistler" - I don't think many, given the predominant local riding style in GP - XC.  Whislter is a VERY niche market - Downhill/lift-assisted.  Noone speaks of the tons of safe, local, "flat parks" around the lower-mainland that the average guy can go to any time they please - compare "Toyota MTN Park" to those.  Yes you have to pay for entrance here instead of it being a community run thing overseas but you also get the security factor that's needed here and the "right" to build in a central location.  In an environment where you have to worry about bike-jackings, trespassing, overzealous council members, I for one am all for a local park that pushes SA one step closer to a more diverse MTB culture.  That's the end of my rant - thanks for readingWink
