LBS Tantrum

Personally' date=' I think the guy has a right to be miffed, when I buy something, I expect it to be right for the job, its not as if they (the LBS) didnt know what tube to use, they just didnt care or pay sufficient attention to what they sold him.

I also think its a poor show to NOT show him how to use the pump,

And sometimes shops (in all kinds of trade) make a mistake, you realise it when you check the goods, and you go back to have the problem fixed.

Did he ask the shop assistant/owner to show him how the pump works?

I could be cynical and say, "they maybe didnt have the right tube in stock, so just sold him the incorrect tube, hoping he would forget about it, or they could sort out the issues later".

I also think its a poor show to NOT show him how to use the pump, everybody is always on a mission to say, "go to your LBS they will give you the right advise", well they didnt and now everyone defends them - he may as well just have bought on-line and saved himself 20%.!! ClapClap

Hit the nail on the head....

The fact is they sold him the wrong tube.  Yes, the pump does work for both, but who wants to spend a couple of minutes fiddling with the pump to change it around.

To say that he should have changed the pump to the other setting before riding is not a valid argument - what do you then do if you get a slow puncture in your current tube and just need to inflate to get you to the end of the ride without changing the tube.....

That being said however, I cannot believe this was anything but an "honest" mistake on the part of the LBS concerned.  If I go to a restaurant and the waiter / kitchen gets my order wrong I don't go and winge about it online and accuse the restaurant of dishonest because they didn't give me what I asked for....

My personal belief is that you should not judge a business if they make a single mistake, but rather by what they do to rectify the mistake....

Have you been back to the shop and explained the problem you had?  Would you still be complaining if they had apologised and offered to  replace give you a couple of free tubes or a free service???  If you have given them the opportunity to rectify their mistake and they do nothing about it, then by all means complain about poor service.....

I once threw a 24" tube into my Camelbak by mistake before a ride. 20kms down the trail you can only guess what happened...

At least you had the Schrader valve!

Have not had to fix a puncture in at least 6-8 months and SPUD has not had to fix a puncture in at least 12 months.
You lying little toad................I recall riding behind you on Elandsrivier just before the Trans and being covered in PINK SNOT from your rear wheel...............did you tell everyone that neither of us had a tube or a pump and still got home because you tubeless though..... ClapClap

The problem is that if some little assistant had to say to me "Here old man let me show you how to use the pomp"! I would say "Here let me give you a snotty across the back of your head"! the onus is with the rider............I think. Confused

LOL @ kranswurm

Yes, it fitted nice and tightly into the presta hole. It was more a case of "at least I had my cellphone".

Agteros, just take it as one of those little lessons you learn on the way. Believe me, there will be lots with this fietsry storie. Doesn't matter what you buy these days - whether for your home theatre or your flippen baiesukkel. You have to completely educate yourself on the products and what plugs into where to do what. Otherwise you will end up paying a fortune in school fees.

I am on agteros' side in this case. As a noob you don't know anything, you trust that the guys at the shop will sell you the right equipment at the time, if he bought the spare tube seperately from when buying the bike I can say fine, but come on the guy at the shop knew which tubes where on the bike and should've given him the correct one. Even after getting home and checking everything Agteros would probably not have known the difference still, I know I wouldn't have and trust me the last bloody thing I would've checked would be the little valve thingy on the pump, hell I only found that out after 6 months of cycling!

You guys are quick to judge and flame the guy but put yourselves in his position as a new cyclist, his LBS should've adviced him when they saw he was a new cyclist and more importantly sold him the correct equipment. I have been cycling for 4 years and still learn something new everyday.

Agteros - I stay in the area as well and have tried that shop many times, have never received helpfull advice or good service and their prices on items I have wanted have always been far more than other shops. On ocasion I even knew more than the guy helping me, which if you ask most who know me is scary!!!, just do yourself a favour and go to either Northcliff or Linden moving forward, you will be looked after better there.

Also a bit of advice, when going to any shop, tell them you are new to the sport and ask them about the equipment you want to purchase, that makes this sport even more fun, finding out how every thing works etc! Good luck with the journey and don't let this bad experience put you off.

And what does it cost the Lbs salesman to just ask, especially when selling a new bike and spares, if the customer is comfortable with handling those same spares..

Its farkin lazy to just assume that all customers are world experts pompers...

linden cycles might be over twice the distance away' date=' but i know it is in my best interests to drive straight past cycle fountain.

agteros, do yourself a favour - rather go to linden cycles or to northcliff cycles. tell them you're a noob and they will help you to learn about cycling and cycling equipment.

Clap Clap Clap Clap Clap

I've also had pretty cr@ppy service from Cycle Fountain. I'll definitly drive or even cycle the extra distance to either Linden or Northcliff.

Sorry to hear about your woes at Babbas. I can't believe the number of flats yesterday. Must be a new record!!!

In my opinion pumps are a waste of time. In my first year of cycling I've thrown away three decent dual action pumps because when I wanted to use them they where stuffed and didn't work. Now I just carry bomb's on the road and have a floor pump at home.

 Is it April fools already?

Bet ya this agteros dude is like one of the loonies you see pull up to the fuel pump at the garage and stick a bank note out the window and trust that the minimum wage worker will put the correct fuel ijn the car, and then swear at all and sundry when they get robbed/car gets focked from putting diesel when it actually uses LRP/etc etc... Weirdo...

Take some responsibility for your own life....

It's called: "My New Minimalist Style"

& goes to the tune of "Don't Worry, Be Happy" - cool eh?

"..'ere's a story of a pump that broke,

I want to blame it on the lbs oke,

don't worry, be happy,

Rode on the thorns & the tyre went flat

Tube was wrong, so that was that,

don't worry, be happy,

Spent all my money on a mtb race,

Now, all I got was red in the face

Don't worry be happy"

Etc.
