What fond memories from last year! The 94.7 40km mtb race was my first race after about 15 years of just sitting on my ass in front of the tv. Oh yes, I did about a month of training to prepare. Weighed 110kg, completed it in 3h13min. This year I'm 95kg, hoping to cut the previous time in half.

I remember picking up my race number and just wanting to get out of the SCC, but they forced me to walk up and down and up and down between 100s of bike goodies which I new nothing about then. This time I am surely going to spend at least 2 hours there!

I think expos are a waste of time, nothing more than glorified flea markets peddeling tubes and energy drinks at higher than usual prices to unsuspecting customers.

I have never seen anything at an expo I cant see in the local shop or Dischem - I hate the crowds pushing me around and I get out as quickly as possible, last year was my record, collected my number and walked straight out not stopping anywhere, 5 minutes max, this year I am gonna try and escape out through the entrance avoiding the tedious walk through the stalls.

There in lies the problem.... the current offerings are nothing but 'value addeds' for the event they assist in / support.

The cycle expo that takes place at Earls Court, London, is something to see... new model launches, live rider demos, interactive interviews with Pros blablabla.... I could go on, and on, and on.......

The 94.7 and Argus expos are not focused on the same group, so don't offer this kind of experience

I like it and I've seen and bought quite a few things at them like my bike stands for R100, carbon cages for R120, bandannas for R30 nad got some connections for all sorts of other stuff and that is worth more then the money they make on the day.

I concur with the "waste of time" sentiment.

As someone said, its just a few shops looking to dump old stock they cant normally sell or increase their sales of tubes for a day.

I dont even bother stopping.

.............and while I am on the issue, I think the venue (SCC) sucks as well, traffic is incredible on a normal day, this just makes it  10 x worse, parking is difficult and payable, even if you are only there for 10 minutes, and coming from Fourways its at least a 45 - 60 minutes commute each way - I feel sorry for those in say the Vaal triangle, its what, a 200 / 220 km round trip - you almost need to take a day off work.!

The reason why I did not break my personal best of "In and Out - number collection" of 5 minutes last year, was because I ran into ShaunH.  So I had to stop and say Hi.  Maybe I will break my record this year.

I hate expo's, shows, etc.  I don't like hundreds of people around me.  I normally takes my wife a LOT OF THREATENING and PROMISES to get me to go to crowded places.

Then I don't even want to get started on the Sandton Convention Centre.  Comming from Pretoria ...... eeish!!!!  Might have a contact this year to get my number for me.

normally I don't like flea markets and so on, but I very much enjoyed the Expo last year. so, I'll go and browse a little again on Friday. maybe even get to chat to a fellow hubber or two.

I am taking a days leave in honour of the expo Big%20smile.

My advice is dont go on opening morning, nearly 50% of entries are collected in the first few hours. Its not as busy on Friday or Sat.

For your middle of the bush, out of Africa Hub cuzz, expo's are like a toy shop to a kid for me. I buy, I ask, I touch, I ogle, I check out, I try out, and I ogle some more. Then I go back to where I'm staying, then do the race, then return to the middle of the bush. Expo's, 94.7 and Argus, here we come.
