I also heard that the Giro is off. Shame.

I hope you wrong Austin regarding the Worlds View Challenge.

Nope, Austin is 100% right re Worlds View.  I received notification from Alec Lenferna today as it was one of the proposed events for proposed SuperSeries.

Austin also correct about a few other things Ouch

Is CSA turning their back on road racing in favour of other (growing) disciplines? Judging from their site and the Road Commission's apparent lack of visible input, it would seem so.

Austin, it's turned into a multi million rand business for race organisers.  Can we expect anything less????  Make it too difficult and the "cash cows" won't ride.  R275 x 25000 funriders sweating at it vs a bunch of 150 guys, RACING and giving all, but minimal entry fees?  It's a cash making racket!!!!

Sure

Dodgy article this. Seems like it was written by a non-cycling journo cos there are plenty of errors. Just because it was published somewhere, doesn't make it factually correct.

seems as though mtb is progressing in sa whike road seems to be going backward almost.. from an elite racing point of view at least... matie2008-11-16 16:03:27

Surely it wold make sense to have 2 or 3 teams head out to Europe and ride on the "continental" tour. All (Most of) the top riders from the local Elite teams can then ride for these 2 or 3 teams.

The performing riders can be selected for teams like Barloworld while the up-and-coming youngsters left in SA can aspire to ride for the "Continental" teams.

Re-structure the Vet's racing based on a strength basis, with the up-and-coming youngsters riding for teams that compete in the Top Vet's category. This way there is a progressive step all the way up to Elite (ProTour) status.

sh*t thats a good team, well done to ML for pulling it off.

It would seem that the local races are not long enough for the pros.  As Austin said it always about a bunch sprint.....I know that it must be a logistical nightmare to have the pros racing a longer route and then the masses the shorter route.  But is it not in the interest of SA cycling if this is done.  If the 94.7, Argus, Hype2Hyper, etc want to host a cycling event, one of the criteria should for them to host a longer distance for the pros.  Those elite races that don't/can't race these distances can race in the open licenced groups.

So next year Konica has no big name riders, so it will be down to 3 teams, Neotel, MTN and Medscheme to do the racing....
