The Bull of Africa hired some freelance photographers and each team paid R 200 upfront for a DVD of all images they shot. I received ours a couple of weeks ago and it had over 2 850 photographs.

What cameras did they use ?  Canon EOS 30 & 40 D's

Amateurs, now if they had Nikon! LOL

Photography is expensive full stop! So we expect the photographer to just be there at his own risk & cost with equipment worth around R100' date='000 to get the images we are demanding? And then we only want to pay him R25 for a pic? And then after pressing the little button he still has cost to go download, crop, perhaps do some basic post processing, upload to a website that costs him money and pay a commission for online payment processing. There is no money in photography and the guys do it for the passion. It's why you don't see many of them around.

I am a cycling nut and a freelance photographer. If you are looking for the action shots you want ... I'll happily do a private shoot to give you a life size poster for your wall that looks like a Bicycling Cover or a FHM spread if you are female. But I ain't doing it for R25 a photo :-)

Moan moan moan. If you want the photo..buy it. If you dont..dont. Personally I wont sit in the sun the whole day taking pictures. And then some of the poor photographers even get run over by you moaning cyclists...

Its a tough job, give them some credit.

The issue is that the photos don't contain any "action".

They're nearly always boring photos taken at the near the top of a climb.
If the photos contain me dominating a rock garden or flying through a  corner in break away' date=' for example. Then R60 would be nothing!!

I'v got some nice action ones from the Knysna Oester. About 5km before the end there are those tree roots (not the ones before you get to the tar)that you can go flying through the air.

i think they should have a slightly cheaper digital option, they would make less profit per pic, but at the moment i am not even buying them so it would be better than nothing:)

Forget the prices.

I tried ordering from their site ....... but just got some stupid error message. I sent an email and the reply I got was that I should phone them "

"Please would you contact us so that we can assist you telephonically?

We apologise for the inconvenience." I couldn't get through and believe it or not but I got the same treatment after trying to order a pic from the Crater Cruise and I even sent them the thumbnail of the pic I wanted....

I havent bothered phoning them again.

As for the prices, a decent camera costs R15k and a lens will set you back the same, then you need a laptop and photo editing programme, flash cards, batteries, chargers and lots of hours to process images (assuming they work in RAW).

But I was very surprised to see them doing mugshots at the finish of the 94.7 and not using fill in flash despite it being midday ...

There's 3 pics I want in total 1 from C/Cruise and 2 from 92.7 both in digital format which could be emailed so there's no postage or print cost involved but seems like they don't want my money.

I do a little Photography work in my spare time and its not just the taking of the photo ,its the time spent later correcting the colour and converting from RAW and the sharpening, that you pay for.

The more photos the client takes the better the price gets too.

R60 for a photo isnt a lot of money if you see the work involved but race pics arent the best.have some done on your own and see the quality that you can get.

I also do pics (see Citizen on Monday 17th), but I deliver and if I take on a job I make sure I'm able to do it.

.... otherwise I starve!!

I also don't think the prices are expensive, but the quality of the image concerns me!!
