Riding on roads in South Africa, I think, is more about knowing the lack of capability of the average motorist to adequately control the machine.... But you go girl.

So you are of the Organ Donor class? WHAT THE?? So, you THINK you know your capabilities? I know that I can ride my bike comfortably at 80km/h on a downhill or faster but I know that a helmet is going to save my life if any other occurence happens - like tire goes or car smashes into me. Its your life but if you are stupid enough to not wear a helmet its your problem - but remember its the rest of us that will be picking up your pieces and its your family that will suffer.

All I can say other than that: WEAR A HELMET or are you brainless already? AngryAngryAngry

iI suppose slightly off topic, but I was reading an article on motorcycle helmets the other day and the concensus was that "not all helments are equal" even if they all carried the same TUV or similar rating.

The suggestion was that the ratings are really so low that its quite easy for a manufacturer to submit even a modest hemlet and have it rated, but that said cost was also an issue, in tests they found the most expensive helmets (top of the range) were not that much (if any) better (protection wise) than the really modest economy ranges, and that the cost was mostly in the art work, a more plush interior and advertising.!

Now I wonder if there has ever been a test done on cycling helmets?? I mean we all wear one, but who is to say that 3k one is any better than the R200.00 one at the local supermarket, they all have some sort of rating, (or my understanding is it cant be sold) - so how do we decide which one is better protection wise??

Cost?? - I cant go with this theory, too much hype and bulls**t involved, Ratings - well they are only a basic standard, Brand name - Maybe? - cos Lance or Chris wears it - ????Dead - maybe if you are a yank!!, shops reccomendation - Dead - we all know that means squat and changes with his stock levels - so how do we decide??

Lets hear.!

That is probably the most stupid rationalisation I have ever seen.  Your capabilities don't control external factors or equipment failures.

But, like my riding partner always makes me say,

its not my head its not my head its not my head its not my head its not my head its not my head its not my head its not my head...

Yeah, but there is a vast difference in material used  between some cheapies and some high end ones... Fibreglass vs Carbon fibre shells.... makes a large difference in cost and weight.... granted, it probably doesn't make a big difference in protection...
