This was an email Duncan Waugh, a friend of my father-in-law, sent to (Hello) Peter after receiving a lawyer's letter from Harry's.

Dear Peter

Please find attached a ?lawyers? letter

relating to my recent complaint on your Website, the contents of which are self

explanatory.

It is worthy to note, that I

was so totally disgusted with the poor service at Harries Pancakes in

Dullstroom, not to mention contracting food poisoning that initially I tried to

locate a Harries Pancakes ?Head Office?.  I could find nothing ?on line? or in

the White Pages or Yellow Pages or I would have taken my complaint direct to

them had I located such information.

In

the Public?s Interest and in the interests of Harrys Pancakes, I tried to stress

the seriousness of the situation by ensuring that some senior person in Harry?s

Pancakes was notified of the problem so that it could be rectified and as such,

forwarded a link to my complaint, to a friend in Dullstroom, who in turn

undertook to send it on to ?Harry himself?.

I was pleased to receive an email from

Jan Siertsema, apparently of Harries Pancakes (not reflected in his email

address) requesting further details, which I happily provided.  At that point in

time, I mistakenly believed that management at Harries Pancakes were displaying

an element of goodwill and honour.  Alas, this is not the case.

You will therefore understand that I

find the contents of the ?lawyers? letter obtuse.  They are clearly not aware

that I cannot instruct you to remove something from your established website.

Indeed, I will not try to.  Quite the contrary, I believe that it is in the

Public?s Interest for them to know that if they are insulted by Harries Pancakes

management and staff and that if they do happen to contract food poisoning, or

have any other problem, they better not complain?or else!!!!

I had thought of the matter as history,

but it would seem that there is a nefarious and rather juvenile element at work

here, intent on drawing even more attention to Harries Pancakes.  Are then any

other sites like yours that I can post details on?

Regards

Duncan Waugh

I have a pdf of the letter. They are sueing him for R150k in damages.

There are many ways to make a thread better.

Giving it a point would be one.

Deleting it & putting us out of its misery would be another.

Nothing here apart from trashing someone's biz - no gossip, no gory details or dead bodies - not even a stand-up fight in cycle shoes.

D- Must do better.

I must say it all depends which one you go to.

Also true. I've been to Cape town's, BloubergStrand's, PE, Boksburg

's...Westgates, never any problem. BUt Harry's suing because somepne complained! Must have a lawyer friend! AngryOthers may just laugh if you wanna sue for damages because of a complaint.

I've heard that it can cost a company quite a bit of money to register on hellopeter to respond to complaints (anywhere from R12k to R60k). I'm guessing Harry's is probably upset that they have little recourse on HP unless they cough up.

Joe, I'll let you know if there are any medical complications. It is possible to make a point subtly.

People who post on HellloPeter, especially the complainers amuse me. They always seem at great pains to point out their fancy jobs and fancy titles... Preening and pimping for all to see..." Look at me I'm the king and look at how abominably the serfs have treated me" - kind of attitude...

Tnx that's better

Proving food poisoning from pancakes could be a touch tricky.

I have waited to make this complaint as I wanted make sure of my facts first. On 30 December 2008, my family and I were in Dullstroom and had afternoon 'tea' at Harry's Pancakes. Firstly, we were immediately offended by the rudeness of the 'manageress' and staff. Clearly, English speaking people and people of colour are NOT welcome. My daughter and I had pancakes, my wife asked for scones with cream and jam. My wife was served what appeared to be two little round peices of stale bread with a cup of grated cheese and a cup of stewed strawberries. Her complaint elicited a cup of 'cream' slammed down on the table. That night, we endured hours of vomitting and 'the other end', three of us taking turns at the hotel room toilet bowl. As I am a Forensic Investigator, I subsequently set about determing where we had contracted such violent food poisoning and having interviewed several other visitors to Dullstroom on that day (all of whom suffered a similar fate), I have concluded without doubt that the common denominator was Harry's Pancakes. Nothwithstanding the fact the service is an embarrassment to Dullstrom as a whole, it is a health risk and should be closed down.
