Security Guards? or beggars with bibs?

Posted

Where exactly were they parked? I parked in the fenced off parking area where there was a guard and a boom. He asked me to switch my car off and on before they opened the gate for me.

Could always be an act after they organised a few stolen cars.

I heard of a car that was stolen but it was NOT in the designated parking area.  It was on the side of the road heading from Nasrec into Soweto.  Without condoning theft, I think I would have been a bit reluctant to park my car there.  There was quite a bit of space in the designated parking areas with car guards.  Does anyone know where the other cars were stolen from?

or expliotation as these guards not paid anything decent as they are told the tips would increase their takings for the day of which they still have to pay a bib fee to the rich clown who runs the scheme from his fancy car boot.

If I do it again, will organize the traveling arrangements a bit differently. Maybe we should all boycott the next one, just to tell the organizers to get their act together.

TIA

Cars get stolen everywhere...Shopping malls, universities, at the traffic light etc.

Yes, I feel your pain, have sponsored 2 cars myself...but the organizers can't really prevent crime. That is something the police should do.

I started in the last group for the FastOne ('Notstrong').  So when we arrived at a fairly empty 'secure parking area' I could see that there were certain elements that had no interest in cycling whatsoever.  We meant to write down registration numbers but due to the rush to get everything done we never got to it.  Needless to say when we arrived back there after the race, we were not surprised to see that vechicles were in fact stolen and damaged...

I completely agree with Gillie that security should have been one of the first priorities of the organisers.  This really left a bad smell to an otherwise well organised race.

GFishy, with respect, where have you been the last 15 years?  To expect the Police to take care of matters is really naive...

What I still want to know is, where were these cars stolen from? Were they stolen from one of the designated secure parking bays?

Lance Notstrong - Welcome to the hub and nice post.

You do realize that with a User Name like that you are going to be the target of much abuse?

And probably some applause from the troll gallery.
