whew getting the right saddle is difficult and about as expensive as a particularly vicious cocaine habit. Seats are expensive and your bum is likely to be fussy which means when you do find a good one, buy a spare.

I shall do so indeed. gotta find the right one though. So its a matter of trial and error then?

Yep trial and error - and Mampara makes a good point, any and every saddle you can borrow to try out, do it, until you find one which makes your butt happy....

One word: Fizik.

Why? Are they much better than Selle Italia and San Marco?

I currently have a Selle Italia SLR XP (165g) on my cervelo, but its slightly uncomfortable and i also want a white saddle to match my handlebars....

beg and borrow. Or even buy second hand' date=' even if they are scuffed. [/quote']

Yip. Beg, borrow but don't steal. Try as many as you can for as long as you can. A bad saddle will only rear it's ugly face after a good couple of k's.

fizik arione is regarded as one of the most liked saddles around.

Have a white one if you like, used twice.

be careful about buying used saddles as they reshape to other peoples shapes.

all i can say is "been there done that"-oh yes when u find a saddle that works buy 2 of them as they might stop producing them.

generally look at the fizik, selle italia and specialized body geometry ranges and be prepared to spend around 2K

Two words: Dishonest Advice.

Telling someone that this or that saddle is the right one is like Reverend Moon choosing a wife for you and marrying you in a mass ceremony in Seol.

Saddles are highly personal and what works for you won't work for Joe.

Spec's fotted to your ass might help, but it's not a guarantee. Funnily enough the two "works for everyone" saddles doesn't work for me. The Arione gives me pins and needles ( and not in a good way) anything over 35k's and the Gobi just doesn't work. Numb ass, numb right foot, twitch in my eye...you name it.

Try before you buy, otherwise it becomes expensive....and painful

cut cut cut cut

I don't think so.

Saddles comprise a leather/vinyl cover on a thin layer of high density foam on a thick shell of PVC.

Not one of these three components deform within the useful lifespan of the saddle.

I've heard this myth repeated often but have never come across a saddle bar a leather Brooks saddle that does that.

Here's a shop that will do a computer analysis of your butt while you ride your bike and then recommend which saddle is best for you, or they will make a custom saddle, something similar to getting orthotics for your feet. Perhaps JB would be interested in expanding his business into butt fitting?<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
