What a joke, races must be tougher.!!

How old are you bud.? Not everyone is in their 20 s  and early 30 s where a race like this is easy, so now youngsters who were still in 3 cornered pants when I was running comrades and riding Argus, want it all tougher.??

Me, I am nearly 50, and am still running comrades and two oceans and riding races - agreed not in record times, but if you are still around and think all races must be tougher when you are 50, come chat.!!

Heres a newsflash sunbeam, - Commercial races are for everybody, toppies like me, moms with kids, and those who just want a day in the sun - go race the jock if you want a toughie - there may only be 100 of you though.!

Yeah so the guys racing should be 1st priority since its their jobs at stake. Why would it be any different for a "non-racer" doing 60km of a challenging route than 100km of a joke. Either than just saying "I did a 100km under 4 hours!!"? And I cant understand it on the entry it readed new improved route and its even faster(less of a challenge) I mean common.

I started in the DL group and sorry to say, either the speed was to high for me to worry about marshalls not doing their work or I was'nt all there. I was in what must have been the 2nd DL bunch and we had no problems at any intersection. Okay sorry, turning rigth after going over the highway towards the finish line, there was this truck blocking the road, but we all managed to get pass it. Maybe the earlier groups were to quick onto the cops and marshalls seeing that this race was so fast. smiley2.gif

Porky your a man that can RUN almost a 100k. so why is "free wheeling" a 100k so hard?

Its not that hard, and I am not a fanatical cyclist, (check my other post to see where AL lost me) - I maybe pick 5 or 6  bike races a year which suit me, as an eg I wont do the Jock anymore, its too tough and it takes me too long to recover, most folk are the same, they do races which suit them if its too tough they skip it - "SPORT IS FOR ALL RC" - not just the young and strong - differant folk have differant objectives, commercial races need to cater for all.

Newsflash, old sport! Without us weekend warriors, you wouldn't have any races to ride in,  cos its our entry fees that finance them. So, why do you still think you should get priority?

Also, as to your saying that the race was a 100km freewheel, I am afraid you need to look at your Garmin / polar stats. Mine says that 17.773km of the race was in fact uphil.

If you need a challenge, go climb Everest or something. Be assured, that we are very impressed with you.

Anyway, I agree wholeheartedly with what Porky had to say.

The east rand is flat, always has been always will be, also spare a thought for the poor east rand motorists that will have had 3 weekends in a row of their roads being filled with lycra clad cyclists filling up the roads. The Emperors is sponsor so it can be expected that they will want to have the race start and finish there, I cant recall 1 Gauteng race that has 2 completely separate routes/finish mats for long and medium distances and having separate routes and finish mats will unfortunately drive up costs causing more complaints plus require more marshalling and cause more trafic problems.

Yah, my Garmin battery went flat at 66 kms but up to then I also registered a fair bit of climbing - maybe I rode a differant route to the others.!Smile

Jeez tchops - if you don't like it go and race somewhere else .......... maybe you should move to Sabie or Capetown then!

One cyclists hill is another cyclists mountain.

I agree with you100%.

The + groupo was pickikng up the pace in the last few km and preparing for the fina sprint when  we hit an ikntersection. I dunno what happened with the marshal cause he didnt do anything. Half the group shouted right while the other shouted straigvht. this ended up in 2 cyclelab academy riders going straight and the rest of the bunch going right, almost causeing a collision......split up the group at the ctucial stage or 1.5km  to go

Yah, I also had no problems, and I never saw any cops plonking on the seat or car, they were all out doing a sterling job.

There were a few small unmanned intersections, mostly when cars entered from the left only - so what - we just looked left first, checked for cars, and rode through.

Wasnt that difficult.! Some of the others should try it.

Maybe the organisers should seperate the wannabees and us social riders and have seperate races.

Price money for wannabees cut by 95%

Price money for social riders up by 95%

Haa,Haa, - Yah, I agree with that - let the wannabees ride with the pros - two laps at least, I mean otherwise its too easy, and the rest of us can enjoy the race on our own terms.

Watch the wannabee circle quickly deplete itself.!
