How do you prevent you spare tube from scuffing through? I've been caught more than once with a useless tube because of this. I've tried taping it up but even the tape scuff through.

Mine is just in a bankie each full of baby powder. I recently added a chainbreak tool to the bag and used a piece of old tube to wrap around. Never had problems.

I roll my tube up tight and put it in a plastic bank bag. The only time my tubes have scuffed through was when I put an elastic band around the tube. After a while the elastic band seems to "attack" the rubber and leave it very thin where the two touched each other. When using it one day I was left with about 8 holes in the tube and couldn't understand because it was a brand new tube tube which had never been used. After it happened to another tube I realized what was happening and started using bank bags. Another problem is the rivets that keep the bag and bracket together. They also seem to chaffe the tube through, so I put a piece of hard plastic (coke bottle) inside the bank bag to prevent this

Huh...........how on earth does a bag scuff right through a tube? I've been riding for 10 years and have never heard of this.

Ah so your still new to this thenWink

This is not common on the road (I have never had the problem) but on the MTB with all the shaking there is a lot of movement that cause things to rub against each other in the bag. The result? Yip you guessed it.

I will definitely try the bankie/sock en baby powder
