I always lock the fork when I want to climb fast and hard.

You cannot stand if you don't lock the fork, otherwise you will be bouncing.

According to the Fox manual you should lock-out on firm terrain and climbs for better control. Less bobbing and sag on the uphills. I frequently use the lock-out and get better control on the front wheel up steep climbs. Set the lock-out blow-off threshold so that when you forget to unlock or hit bumps on the acsent, the fork will still be active and "blow off". All this according to the Fox manual.

I lock my fork out quite often, when climbing long dirt roads such as Breedtsnek and more technical climbs.

Use mine quite regularly too...

 

Although, this might just be until the novelty wears off...

 

Have a Fox RLC now, but my previous fork had a Intelligent Magnetic Valve that was set-and-forget. Locked out for me when it needed too.

 

Must say, I notice quite a big difference going up long, slightly bump firetracks - locked out I get to the top quicker, and less tired...

 

Maybe it's all in the mind??

Use mine all the time, when climbing, since I have the remote. Best thing since sliced bread. Never really forget on locked but then maybe I'm not old enough yet.

Use it on technical climbs, long climbs, whenever I stand, be it sprint or climb.

 

Leaving it unlocked:

On a rough technical climbs results in the front wheel behaving badly. On climbs some of your energy gets transfered to and absorb by the fork, well that's the theory. Standing causes the fork to soak up an even larger portion of energy, you can in many case feel the difference.

 

Definetly would not get a fork without lockout, same applies to a rear shock (even more so).

lock mine all the time(or at least partial), come to think of it its sometimes more locked than not... much better control and feel on front wheel.

 

less control, heavy on the wristsand and nightmare on fast/tech  downhills and continous corregation  then un-lock (dont bother with rebound - always quick rebound)

no, serious. racing now - when i start off its usually quite fast and not too technical so my shock is either locked or just about locked and i leave it like that till the terrain changes and i feel that im losing te front end or im shaking all round. 9/10 i forget about it after a change and only feel that the front is bouncing when standing - then stiffen it up again...

 

i loose momentum when it start bouncing but when your hr is near max and you push the pedals i dont take my hand off to change it...

 

i guess there is no rule just what gives you the best feedback
