We came past a bad accident last night at about 19h15 on our way back from Tokai forest. A cyclist was hit by a car at the bottom of Swaanswyk hill and tokai road (at the stop street where cars often dont stop or look) Just before the Tokai forest braai area (going up)

There were cyclists applying CPR, but did not look good.

The casualty was propably on his way home or going down to the shops. Did not look like he was wearing a helmet and had no lights or reflective clothing (that i could see). At that time of night you will be invisible.

Dont know the circumstances of the accident, but motorists on that stretch of road must be weary of cyclists at all times. The way some people drive up that road is ridiculous (day or night).

Cyclists seem to have short memories! You need to make yourselves visible! If you ride after dusk, you must have lights front and back! and reflective clothing! This includes MTBers out on the Mountains in the evenings!

The riders that we pasted coming down tokai forest in the dark without lights! You guys are a danger to fellow cyclists and yourselves!

Did you happen to see what the person was wearing or what bike?? I was up there yesterday evening, but came down at 6:30. I know quite a few people that cycle there!

Judging by the small memorial erected at the spot of the accident i think this incident was fatal (it certainly looked fatal). Have not seen any reports on the accident so am not 100% certain.

We saw the accident on our way to Tokai for our night ride.

Yong black male, around 1.7m tall riding a blue colour steel road bike.
It looked like he was hit quite hard because the bike was a good 10m away from where the Security guys and paramedics were attempting to revive him.

it appeared that he was hit by a large 4x4 that was parked across the road. Not sure how things happened.

At 21h45 we were heading back to the Steenberg village were we parj and his body was still lying by the side of the road, covered by a blanket. Two police vehicles were guarding the area.

He was not wearing a helmet nor did it appear that he had lights of any sort.

This was a real tragedy and it was not even mentioned in the following mornings papers. Why,... i don't know.

It appeared that he died of severe head injuries.

Sad to hear he did not survive. No matter who the person is. To be knocked down by any type of car or truck is not acceptable.

May he R.I.P.
