The bikes that Davey and Roan are riding are Scandium/Alu alloy. Equipped with SRAM X0 geartrains, gripshifts, Formula Oro brakes, Industry 9 wheels and some lightweight crankset the name of which I can't remember, they come in at around 9kg. Roan has a double chainring config. He reckons the bikes are schweet for XC and not bad at all for marathon, compared with the Scott Spark he was riding last year. That seems to be borne out by his performance on Sat's World Cup where he was 2nd African across the line. Nice one Ro!

Thanks for that info Intern. I saw that Roan's bike was black so I just assumed it was carbon.

I take it the XC bikes are built here in RSA too? Really impressive stuff if they are.

Roan and Davey are indeed sponsored by Morewood this year, as top notch XC and Marathon riders who have heaps of experience coupled with Roan's engineering background they are the perfect team for product development to assist in developing, prototyping and bringing to market Morewood's first XC/ Marathon line of frames.

On the drawing board at the moment there is both a 100mm full sus "marathon" frame as well as a hardtail "XC" frame. The frames Roan and Dave are on at the moment are merely blanks hence the lack of branding, unfortunately due to some delays in prototyping of specific parts Morewood we not able to get fully frames together in time for the Epic, but they should be out and about on the new product in the next few weeks. Certainly in time for the Continental Champs.

Its not certain yet when the frames will be brought to market, but the goal is to launch them in SA in time for Epic shoppers in 2010. I am currently working on a "premium" build which we will offer mimicking the team bikes which Roan and Dave are on, pricing at this stage is impossible to peg but expect something with the new SRAM goodies to be available next year in addition to the frame only options we have had with frames in the past.

I'd def buy a morewood all mountain type hardtail (not the jump hardtail they have) , something like the santa cruz chameleon.

Well done Andre! Keep 'em coming. A 120mm marathon / light trail bike will be nice. This weekend in Tokai was like a Morewood convention. Saw and chatted to two okes on Shovas, saw two Izimu's (one in full flight, one idleling along) and one Shova LT. Great stuff. Glad to see the locals supporting the brand.

For now, a premium Marathon Morewood then with SRAM XX, I9 Ultralites, Sid WC, Formula R1's, Easton cockit, CK headset & BB, Look Quartz Pedals...please? I said please!!!!
