Critical Mass 24th April 2009

So, this morning was CM 24-04-09 and just as an experiment I decided to not post anything on the Hub, do you know what impact it had, nothing. That's right, nothing, it seems there is a large online community that like to whine but when there is something they could possibly do it all suddenly become too inconvenient, nice one.

 

Anyway, that's my rant, it was a cool ride on a cool morning with some cool people. Later.

Critical Mass is a bicycling event typically held on the last Friday of every month in over 300 cities around the world.^[1] While the ride was originally founded in 1992 with the idea of drawing attention to how unfriendly the city was to bicyclists,^[2] the leaderless structure of Critical Mass makes it impossible to assign it any one specific goal. In fact, the purpose of Critical Mass is not formalized beyond the direct action of meeting at a set location and time and traveling as a group through city or town streets on bikes.

was keen on organising a naked bike ride..almost the same thing.

My critical mass is the mass I obtain right after a braai and plenty beers. That mass makes me top-heavy!

Nuwbie, it's supposed to happen in all the major centres (Cities) of the world.

 

In SA, though, I don't think enough planning goes into it so no-one really knows where or (as I have only just found out, When.)

Does it happen in Alberton? Not sure, I guess that means, it's up to us to see that it does happen in Alberton in future. In fact, I have never seen it happen anywhere, ever.

Now yr talking, but it could be pretty yugly due to all the critical mass, then again it can be very uplifting also

Think nothing of it Nuwbie. Most of us don't, so we'll be in "good" company.

 

AFAIK, the whole event is supposed to be that we cyclists, commute on this particular Friday but we do not wear cycling kit, just normal work clobber.

 

Going to look helllllllllll - uva funny for the dudes who have to wear suits. So maybe next month, we arrange to meet here at BC and then Ride into Alberton city centre, climb into your cars and then head off to the office.

 

Would have been cool of we had remembered today beacuse eath day was earlier this week.

 

Like we need to dedicate a day to earth, we need to change our lifestyles and start looking after mother earth. It will suck if we have to live on Mars. Immagine starting a cycling club there.
