MOTOREX !!!

I'm using Motorex Dry lube now. Surprisingly it is not dry and flows into the links very easily. But for some odd reason my road bike's chain is much dirtier then my MTB chain after a ride.

I've used all the commercial products available here... for the amount of riding I do, dry lubes doesn't cut it... Squirt works nicely to lubricate cables, but on a long ride I have to stop to re-lube... I hate a dry sounding sqeeky chain... Then the prices...

Castrol Chain Wax... if you want to spend some money on a great product. R120 for a large aerosol can. 500ml? Lasts very long.

My favourite and first choice: The best value for money and the best performing lube... Find it at Midas... Wynns Chain lube in a grey and orange 500ml aerosol... Easily lasts me a whole year. If you apply too much, the chain will get black and dirty... If you apply just enough, the chain stays clean and a light mist of the chain is all I do every 100km...

Once a week I just clean everythign with a hard brush and dish soap... no black stuff...  About R50 for 500ml...

Castrol Chainsaw lube... (Lubricut 150) Very thick and sticky, your chain will never shed this stuff in a muddy/wet race... Can't remember the price...

Anyone used a lanolin based oil? I purchased a product called Fluid Film at the IronMan expo, but don't know how it performs in dusty conditions over an extended period of time.

That was me, Try Spanjaard chain & linkage spray or Spanjaard liquid grease.

For me it out performs anything else thats been mentioned, I've tried em all as when it comes to maintenance I'm lazy and always looking for something better. On a road bike you can do 300 + k's and the chain stay's clean.

So I wnt out and bought a can of this Spanjaard chain & lincage spray...

applies very nicely - thin, penetrating spray - just like a silicone based spray...

Went for a cycle yesterday - conditions were wettish 9not entirely muddy)....and WHAT A MESS!!!

It seems this oil is very sticky and does not shed....all well and good BUT is doesn't shed the dirt /grit either!! To me that is also not eh solution.

My chain was so full of grit...my normal cleaning procedure (undiluted Clean Green & brushing) did not want to clean it - just spread the muck around!!

Finally had to take chain off & soak in diesel for 10min...works excellently!! Clean as new.

Point is - I think all these bike & chainsaw & whaterver else oils are just perhaps too sticky and does not shed the dirt / mud /grit as it should.

So the jury is still out on what the best lube is to use...

i'm more inclined to stay with lubes developed spesifically for MTB use i.e squirt etc. etc.

Castrol Chain WAX... is a wax aerosol and looks no different on the chain than any dry wax... FinishLine, White Lightning, Squirt... R120 for 500ml...

Like I said above.. the Wynn's stuff gets black and ugly if you apply too much... If I apply it with a light mist of the chain, it looks like I've got a wax lube on... no sticky stuff... any oil based lube will attract dirt if applied too thick...

as with anylube, the user is ewell advised to wipe any excess off the chain before riding the bicycle.

My motorcycle chainlube works wonderfully. No mess after a rather wet weekend in the cape. In fact, i simply hosed the chian off and ran it through the park tool chain cleaner a few times. Still lubed and now very clean.

Squirt does not like wet conditions.  Not THAT expensive. Confused Use Finish Line wet lube for wet conditions.

Used Squirt during this years Epic and I think I re-lubed in total about 4 times during stages.
