So here I am, sitting till half past one doing projects last night, when once again I'm reminded why our schools are getting dumber! While working on a heap of maths to hand in the this morning I left the TV on e-tv and on comes the game show brain box or something. Just before I'm finished, they start a summing game where you have to call in and give the answer to the sum 12 - 4 + 7, just as I wrote it. THe options are a) 22, b) 1, c) 15, d) 14 and just like the stuf before I thought, what a bunch of crap. Quickly the first caller gets through and says c) 15, ufcoarse. THEY TELL HIM HES WRONG! They say one must remember the laws of math and that one starts with brackets, multiplication, devision, addition and then subtraction and then gave some idiot R9000 for saying its b) 1. Come on, Im sitting there wanting to bang my head against the wall out of frustration. It reminded of seeing the one episode of hip2b2, when they handled primary colours and gave some kid a prize for saying the primary colours are blue, red and GREEN! What are they teaching the kids these days? CryCryCry

Oh boy, that is very, very sad.

Unfortunately I see it almost everyday.  Youngsters come through without basic logic, not to mention math, and then there's the grammar and spelling...

The bad thing is I was checking myself at first even grabed the calculator. I also can't believe that the presenters cant find anything wrong with what they are told by the supervisors or people thinking up the stuf behind the scenes.

These shows have a system to them. You need to look at the background images, or lack of images to get the answer. You need to listen to exactly what they say too. Personally I never get it.

These shows are big in Europe, but eTV is not using one of the (larger) European companies to produce and verify their content.

Schools nowadays, scary stuff.

My son was taugh (Grade 3, I think) that any number (>0) divided by 0 = 0. Huh!!

I had to explain the correct maths to the teacher a few times before she got it right.
