Ability Seeding

Well with the mess we currently find ourselves in I think it is about time CSA rather introduce ability seeding to the SA cyclists.

 

 

 

Make batches of 100 riders the rest moves to the back batch as it fills up.

 

 

 

This way you have no place to hide as your true seeding will show you up.

 

 

 

CSA please think along these lines

It is a simple system use in the USA where you seeding index determines where you ride not your age category

 

Hence guys such as AM MW DG can ride with the best and not be discriminated against.

I think mallo is referring to a system similar to that used overseas where age is not a factor in determining seeding. You earn a seeding based on race results and that seeding determines your starting Category for the next race. (Cat 1 , 2, 3 etc.)

 

That way you are always racing with people of similar ability regardless of age.

So if I understand correctly , what you are saying, is currently happening in the Open cats, where I ride now in "B" , there are riders from all ages, but more or less same abilities.

Prob is the system doesnt work too well, because they update it to long after a certain event, and if a rider has a seeding index of x, based on a race a year ago, and havent done anything inbetween, he will still be seeded acoording to that x index, and might be totally out of shape for eg?

Same reason why certain individuals do the Epic/Comrades/Iron-man even though they know they will not finish - to experience it.

 

No seriously, it's a good measure as to your real ability, or in my case, the lack thereof.

you can enter "open seeded" to be seeded to your ability or age if you are over 30.

 

What is the problem?

And let's not forget, there can only be one SA Champ per category, and everyone else will be considered "not good enough".
