my next crc order is going to include:

crank, chain blades, cassette and chain, tyre's and a polar. Also have you seen their price on Joe's kits compared to LBS?

bought stacks over the years, trying to limit it to stuff that I just can't get locally......last item was a 29.8mm seat collar.....LBS said they had bever heard of such a size and that you don't get it, CRC had about 3 or 4 different models in that size.....

as much as I like online shopping, there is some satisfaction in going to the LBS with something in mind, seeing that they have a selection of what your're after and then walking out with the desired product in hand -instant gratification! Doesn't happen often tho.

Will be looking at better tyres later on, just see how the pocket looks after the Mongoose Confused

I on the other hand like to wait for packages from online shops, being it bike stuff or household items.

Consumables such as tyres, brake pads and chains.

I do not go to the local CycleLab often, but was horrified at certain prices: R812 for a Hutchinson Python UST, R675 for a Conti Mountain King; these items are 50% less at CRC.

Carrying on with what you just said Bigguy, what percentage generally do you find products to be cheaper by ?

Have bought many R1000's worth of stuff from CRC over the years. Do not forget to add on their freight charges, and our 14% VAT. Then re-check their prices against your LBS. Generally, they will still be cheaper, but weigh up the online effort versus the instant gratification of the "see/touch/buy" process. Takes about 6 working days to get here.

Up until about 2 years ago, the price of Shimano kit on CRC was far, far cheaper than in SA LBS's. The gap has closed considerably as of recent, not sure why. Also, they seem to be out of stock of high-end Shimano kit like XTR much of the time these days........but then so too is the whole of SA.

  • 1 month later...

Also keep duties in mind - you sometimes get lucky but I was slapped with 25% duty on helmet and 40% duty on cycling jersey - SERIOUS ouch!!!  VAT was added on top and in the end I was way better off buying locally...things are not always what they appear to be.
